The Outsiders

We used our final tickets of the DCPA season to see the Outsiders. To those who know me, it is not surprising that I have not seen the movie.  I really enjoyed the music and we had good seats (even though we were behind a very tall couple). I drove down after lunch to attend an industry meet up. Marshall took the bus down and met me at the happy hour. We were able to grab some Mexican on 16th Street Mall before getting to the theatre a bit prior to the 7:30 start. This is definitely MY type of musical, but the one thing that is great about having these season tickets is that we have seen a variety of musicals this year. Maybe I'll even choose a non-musical someday......

While it was definitely fall-like during our week at the cabin, we got more sun that we were expecting. We were able to spend the evenings on the dock which was a treat and I even got out on the paddle board on the warmest day. We cheered on our various teams - some to victory, some not.  

Labor Day was definitely the chilliest of the days and we spent it indoors playing games and tackling a very cool wooden puzzle.   Claudia kept us warm in the mornings with a nice fire many of the days and we also enjoyed the hot tub a few times after dinner. We also took the opportunity to get the cabin ready to shut down for the season. It's a bit sad to pack up, but how fortunate we are to have such a wonderful place to visit.

Labor Day with the LeBeavys

It's been over 20 years since we have been to Labor Day at the cabin. And I don't think I have ever been here without our kids. So, it's certainly a different trip given the dip in temperatures and the change in the family dynamic. But, we are so happy to be here with Claudia and also get to cross over with the LeBeavys for a couple of days. We were also able to celebrate Jim's birthday with some ice cream in Harrison and some cake after dinner on Sunday. 

While not very warm, it was sunny for the weekend and we did get to enjoy time on the dock, eat outside one evening and get over to Harrison. The hot tub definitely comes in handy on these chillier days. Unfortunately, the boat started to smoke on the way back from Harrison, but we were fortunate to be close to the public dock and able to walk home. It's now a chilly, gray day on Monday and we've got the fire going. Seems like another good day for the hot tub.

Labor Day 

Football Season Begins

Both boys started the month of September attending football games - Tanner in Iowa City and Drake in Pittsburgh. Tanner said the game was HOT and they left at halftime (Iowa already had the game under control by then). Drake had traveled to watch Miami play in Pittsburgh (where two of Drake's fraternity brothers are from). Fall is upon us (although the heat in the midwest would say otherwise - it certainly feels like fall up here at Lake CDA).

Birthday Girl

A group of us celebrated Alana last weekend at Acreage which was a lovely evening. Drinks. Food. Laughs. This is the first time in a long time that the Wright/Peavy crew is not off for Labor Day and celebrating the birthday girl. So, it was wonderful that we got to celebrate Alana with friends AND then we also grabbed dinner in downtown Louisville this week (as we won't all be in Colorado for 6+ weeks). Happy, happy birthday to the best friend a girl could ask for!

Leadership Planning

Working remotely has its benefits, but it also has its drawbacks..... the biggest one being not being able to get to spend time with your coworkers. I am fortunate that Snapdocs makes time for their employees to get together to not only work together, but also to socialize and have fun. 

This past week, my boss had his leadership team come to Denver to review the first half of the year, plan for the 2nd year and also do some leadership training. While it was still in Denver, it's a hotel I haven't stayed at and I was able to try a couple different restaurants and spend some time in Larimer Square enjoying some champagne and the beautiful Denver weather. Here's to a good wrap up to the year at Snapdocs!

The List - Gold Hill

Our bird launching list is growing faster than our ability to tick things off the list. However, we did (kind of) tick one off last weekend. 

We ventured out on Saturday afternoon for a hike and trip to Gold Hill, a "ghost town" up above Boulder. We had planned to listen to music in the beer garden of the hotel and grab lunch, but we discovered that the beer garden doesn't open until 5:00. 

So, after our lovely hike, we grabbed a beer and sandwiches as the General Store instead. It was a pretty drive and fun outing. We are so fortunate to have such amazing vistas and experiences right in our backyard. We'll get back to Gold Hill again and tick the beer garden off the list in the future.

First Day of 15th Grade

So sweet that Tanner took a picture from his new digs on his first day of Sophomore year at University of Iowa. He's got a sweet set up (includes a basement with a poker table, foosball, darts and a bar) in a great location with four other young men. He's also the recruitment chair for the Ultimate team and will be carrying a heavy course load - the life of an Engineer. Here's to a great year! 

Back to Bird Launching

I warned Marshall that the week the boys left, I was going to need to keep busy. The day the boys left and a couple folks checked in on me and I made the joke that work has finally proved useful - a distraction. ha! 

Over the last couple of weeks, I would say we have done a pretty good job! Mahjong, pool nights with friends, trivia, happy hour with neighbors and trying a couple new recipes. We've also been to Denver each of the last two weeks - last week for Spamalot at the Buell Theatre and last night for dinner in Larimer Square and the Broncos pre-season football game with one of the Engagement Couples we met 25 years ago. They just entered their "bird launching" phase and it was great to catch up with them. 

Here's to more adventures and embracing our bird launching phase of life again. (not many pics - too busy bird launching!)
