Teenager in the House

As of this morning, we have a teenager in this house (and he reminded me of that). The day started off with cinnamon rolls (D-man asked how early j had to get up) and a happy birthday serenade from me.

Tonight, we celebrated with chicken enchilada casserole (D-man's choice), presents, and leftover cake. It was a low key celebration, but I hope our son knows how special he is and what a wonderful young man he is turning out to be.

Reminders

Another 60 degree meant a nice walk around Davidson Mesa. I walked on part of the trail I had never walked, and I was pleasantly surprised with a couple good reminders. As I have told the boys recently, perspective is very important and these were good reminders of how fortunate I am - this is just a minor bump in the road........

Ski Celebration

Like last year, we celebrated D-man's birthday at Winter Park. This year he invited a friend and spent the day skiing with him. We arrived around seven on Friday night, had pizza, played blitz, and the boys chilled on their devices. 

While the boys skied today, T-man, Marshall, and I had a great day on the slopes (even though a bit cold).

After the boys skied down a hill by the condo, we had dinner, went to the pool and then had birthday cake. A couple weeks ago we weren't sure we would be up here, so I'm glad it all worked out.

Simple Things

Today I was reminded of some of the simple things in life. 

T-man learning about the growth mindset. 

Making Rice Krispie treats in the middle of the day. 

Going to happy hour at 4:00 with Marshall. 

Having drinks with a neighbor to lend an ear and being reminded how fortunate we are to have wonderful friends. 

Having friends over for a drink pre-band concert and enjoying the music that can be produced when kids work together. 

Belated Birthday

On Saturday, we celebrated T-man and his friends 10th birthday with glow in the dark mini golf, bowling, and video games.  With the December we had, T-man was kind enough to understand that we had to postpone his birthday to January. And when his friend wanted the exact same party location, we decided that was a good way to make everyone happy. 

I think it was a bit hard to "share" his birthday and he was upset because we weren't originally doing the video games, but it ended well and he enjoyed the day and of course, his presents.

Winter Park Wonderland

A couple idyllic winter days in Winter Park made for some fun winter outings. Sledding, knocking down icicles, hot tubbing, skiing, swimming and 3 failed attempts at apree ski made for a fun weekend. It was so wonderful to have the Marshall family come experience one of our ski weekends.

Ski Adventures!

The Marshall family arrived in Colorado on Thursday night and we chilled in Louisville on Friday morning. The kids (and Jacki) napped on the way to Winter Park and we then got skis, hot cocoa and made our way to the condo. The Peavy men joined us around 7. There were games, hot tubs, and sleep adventures for sure, but all people that were to be skiing were on their way around nine. Kate and I will just enjoy the view from the condo and hope some good skiing is being had.

Hot Cross Buns

T-man came home from Gramma's with a clarinet (that used to be Uncle Matt's). Today he got it out and I taught him how to play "Hot Cross Buns." He was very proud - and so are we!

Drake Days

After spending Saturday skiing, D-man and I headed up early on Sunday morning for a double header basketball game in Ff. Collins. The team went 1-1 and then D-man and I hit Runza in Loveland (the only one in Colorado now) on the way home for lunch. As we got in the car to drive home, he said he really had a fun time with me the past two days. Wow - what a great feeling!   

Unfortunately, we had a Drake day today as well because of strep throat (we watched Rudy). As of tonight, he still was not feeling well. Bring on Drake day #4 tomorrow.

A Special Day

D-man wanted to go skiing today to get to 20% of his 10 day skiing goal. Traffic was horrible, so we didn't leave until 10 and ended up having the last two runs at the end of the day to ourselves. I usually ski with T-man so this was a special day for me. According to D-man, "I look good, but I'm slow." I'll take it. 

We had a happy hour drink at the end of the day before heading home (and a great drive home).
