Trick or Treat (who are we kidding - all treats)

Lots of treats this week.

 

Last night the SAC kids put on a Halloween party with decorations, dinner, and a movie. T-man had a great time! So lucky to have such a great after school program for our kids. 

Tonight I came home early from work and we attended "treat street" put on by the high school kids with the neighbors - games, face painting, and treats! 

We then came home and carved pumpkins in the garage because it was cold. It was nice to have the boys excited about designing their own pumpkins. 

Next we headed over to other neighbors for the neighborhood "pre-party." It was VERY windy, but the kids definitely did not notice. Pizza and beer followed by mahem as the kids took off for treats! T-man ended up with a group of friends, I went with Peyton and Demarius, and Marshall handed out candy. 

Both boys had a great time and there were so many kids in the neighborhood - such a change from our old house. Halloween will always be a special time for us as the first time we trick or treated in this neighborhood, we had an offer on our house, but didn't know if we would get it. Luckily, there were no tricks and we did!

After a few tears (thanks to someone making fun of D-man's costume), we got the boys out the door and on their way. Just makes me sad that he didn't want to wear his costume. Just more indications that he's becoming a young man and not a little boy and how hard that can be.

Fabulous Fall

A gorgeous fall day with temps near 70. A bike ride to the library for me and T-man (we were on an adventure as the bike path has been destroyed from the flood) for reading buddies and different lazy day activities for the boys. 

Monster Dash

Yesterday, all the Peavy men participated in the 4th annual Monster Dash in downtown Louisville on a beautiful fall day. D-man and Marshall ran the 5k (in around 25 minutes) and T-man ran the half mile. Marshall and D-man were able to try out some trails in Louisville they hadn't been on and D-man ran a great race!

They all enjoyed free eats (and the boys loved getting medals) and then free beers at a local restaurant. We sat on their rooftop patio with our neighbors, had some snacks, and enjoyed trying of a new place. What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Boys of Fall

A beautiful fall day for playoff football with D-man scoring a touchdown (which he didn't know until he got home) and an interception. 

The pirates were the number one seed so our opponent was not very good and we won 48-6 which was nice so more kids could play and less pressure for everyone.

Capturing the Moment

For several weeks, D-man's coach has been taking him to football practice. He walks home from school, puts on his practice gear, and sits outside waiting. I came home from work early to make sure he was ok today and he said "I wish I had a book." I feel like this is a picture that captures so much of who he is right now - responsible, athlete, student, mature in so many ways and so innocent as well. 

Fondue and Football

D-man has been begging to go to the Melting Pot in downtown Louisville. So tonight we decided to do fondue at home. We moved the kitchen table in between the kitchen and the family room so we could do fondue and watch the Broncos. 

The boys weren't so sure about it all, but they soon got into it. T-man liked all the sauces and D-man tried onions and mushrooms. I think Marshall and I probably had more fun than the kids, but it was successful and I can see more of thai in our future. And I gave myself a year to use our fondue supplies before getting rid of them - glad we kept them around! 

Penalty Kick!

T-man was in the goal today when one of his teammates bent down and touched the ball with his hands. This provided the opportunity for the opposing team to kick a penalty pick which T-man defended perfectly! It was a great play and a great way to wrap up the soccer season!

Fall Break

It's not quite the same as getting 3 days at the end of October, but we tried to make the most of our day off by heading to the zoo and checking out the new elephant exhibit and having lunch with Marshall downtown. The zoo was not busy at all and after a brief thunderstorm in the early morning, it was a brisk, but sunny day.

We then stopped at the Asian market downtown and bought the makings for sushi. I always love taking the boys to places that are unique. 

Celebrating Nana

It was so great to have Mom and Dad out here for a long weekend and celebrate Mom's birthday too! It was a typical weekend for us with lots of running around but we were able to enjoy some family time as well. Highlights include: 

- taking T-man to yoga at the library and getting a drink in downtown Lousiville with Mom and Dad. 

- having T-man serve cupcakes for the team snack to celebrate Nana's birthday. He also scored an awesome goal!

- games of Uno, Crazy 8, and Pitch throughout the weekend.

Community

As time goes by, we are more and more happy to be where we are. A couple of events this weekend just make us even more thankful. 

While we were eating dinner on Saturday night, we were "booed." We walked the neighborhood this morning scouting for houses we can target tonight. A good reason to get the boys out of the house! (And I had fun picking out the goodies for our boo baskets with Mom). 

Last night we walked over to the "Great Ferrera Beerfest." It's a group of new people we are getting to know through D-man's football team. We had a really nice time and one of the beers we brought won "best fruit beer." Yes, it was a raspberry Belgian beer - Lindemans Framboise. 

Walk (or Bike) to School Day

Today was walk/bike to school day. Last year, Marshall and D-man biked from the apartment and T-man and I drove to the parking lot of our current neighborhood pool. 

This year we all rode bikes together. Now we actually call this neighborhood home. So glad how everything worked out.

Football

Our boy is growing up. This picture really shows how big he really is. This season has been one of highs and lows. Regardless, we are proud of D-man's dedication and hard work.

Sports Saturday

A chilly morning turned into a beautiful fall day for our sport activities. D-man's team had a big victory and D-man (#6) had a TOUCHDOWN and an INTERCEPTION! We can't wait to share the highlight video! 

T-man had a great goalie stand and blocked 3 repeated attempts on goal before the player kicked it over the goal! He (and we) were so proud! 

D-man's team wore pink socks and I had some pink socks for T-man if he wanted. He wasn't interested, but after seeng D-man's team with them, he decided to wear them. He also sported a pink glove -" to help him in the goal." 

Frigid Friday Flick Night

It used to be that Friday nights were nights to go out. Now with sport practices four nights of the week, we look forward to movie nights on Friday night. Tonight is especially cozy after our first snowfall of the season. It's also Friday so D-man gets to wear his football jersey.
