No skiing today, but some fun sledding and tubing and enjoying the snow showers. A definite winter wonderland.

Holiday Skiing

Isn't much to write about today - the pictures say it all. Beautiful. Fortunate. Family.

Idaho Skiing

Marshall and I joke that we are the only people in Colorado that leave the state to go skiing. After flying late on Christmas night and staying in Spokane, we made it to Schweitzer on the 26th around 4:30. Claudia had a great turkey dinner for us and we opened down gifts.

Marshall, Claudia, and D-man headed out to ski today. T-man and I will head out to the bunny hill later. Great to be here.

White Christmas

According to T-man, it is finally starting to look like Christmas (thanks to a beautiful snowfall tonight). We will definitely have a white Christmas.

Sitting here looking at our semi-decorated tree and being so thankful for so many things. Could tonight be any more magical? Two boys still believing. A picture-perfect snow coming down outside. With my wonderful husband Marshall drinking Icewein, listening to Christmas music, wrapping gifts, and playing Santa. Our first Christmas in our new house. I don't want to go to bed because I don't want the magic to end. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night

Basketball

The basketball season has wrapped up. T-man's team steadily improved over the season and ended with T-man making 2 baskets in his final game!

D-man's team had a rough year and D-man was definitely a stronger player on the team. While his team was crushed in the final game, we were so proud of how hard he worked and never giving up.

Santa

With the craziness of the move, the holidays, and a birthday, we haven't had time to really enjoy the Christmas season. Fortunately, I had signed us up for 'Dessert with Santa' at the Louisville Recreation Center some time ago. The boys and I had dinner before we left, they put on their pj's, and we headed out in the bitter cold to see Santa.

The event was great. There was a 'holiday market' where local kids could sell homemade goodies and crafts (we spent an entire $2.25), the "Senior Singers" were the entertainment (and we all sang along and T-man did the action/signs for the songs he has learned at school), and Santa read a story. All things that further solidify our decision to live in this community 

While other kids waited in line for Santa, we grabbed some more treats and some hot cocoa. The boys were great and it was wonderful talking with them about what they were going to ask for and me just smiling at the magic of it all. From D-man commenting how he liked the older people singing to the boys wanting to go together to sit on Santa's lap, it was great. And wrapping up the night with D-man giving T-man a hug before bed and T-man asking if Santa just saw that. And, of course, the answer from me was a resounding "yes."

Fortunately, only 6 kids showed up for the audition for 20 spots so we are in! Suessical - here we come!

Pool Party!

Winter birthdays means you can't just celebrate at the park with a cake. You have to find an indoor place to go (especially when your house is in shambles from the move). T-man chose a pool party at the local recreation center and all (24!) kids had a great time. No tears. No fighting. Pizza delivered on time. A game of duck, duck, goose at the end of the party to fill some time. Whew.

T-man was a great host and it was fun to see him playing with friends old and new. With 6 Kindergarten boys in the neighborhood, he will have no shortage of friends to play with in the future (quite a change from our last neighborhood). It was a whirlwind and wonderful.

Making the most of the duck, duck, goose game. 

12-12-12

What a very special birthday for our T-man this year - 12-12-12!  It was great to have Nana and Pop here to celebrate our family birthday party on Wednesday night. Complete with cake made by Nana and yummy frosting made by Marshall. A meal of pasta, shrimp, and broccoli in our new dining room table with our new Christmas linens from Gramma made it extra special. 

What a joyous and loving child our youngest is becoming. It was great fun to celebrate his special day with him and hearing him say, "I get to stay up later tonight because I am six." What a big boy we have on our hands now. Thank you for the joy you bring to our lives T-man! 

Spelling Bee

Undone by the word "humility" in the 4th round, D-man's first spelling bee is over. He was very worried about his performance. But, we were so proud of him for trying. This was a great opportunity to try something new and learn the lesson of slowing down. We practiced this week and were able to talk about how practicing made him better. We were very thankful (Nana, Pop, and I were able to attend) that he wasn't the first one out and had 3 rounds of success. Whew!

For someone that is good at most things he tries, this was a great opportunity to step outside his comfort zone and learn that you won't always finish first, but is important to try.

Cookie Party!

Yesterday, I volunteered in T-man's classroom for a cookie party. It was a nice way to do a holiday event and spend some time with my little guy.

Louisville Parade of Lights

This week, we made Louisville our home. While we are surrounded by boxes and still in transition (where is the silverware?), we are happy to be making progress.

Tonight the boys and I walked in the Louisville Parade of Lights with the boys' school. While T-man was originally not impressed, we had a great time and caught most of the parade after our 6 block parade route.

The local floats, high school and middle school bands, schools, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts were all great. And there were quite a bit of people attending the parade. What a great way to see the cute little downtown area!

We got a bit chilly at the end of the night, but it was great to be able to be able to see "the real Santa" at the end of the parade. The magic of Christmas at work.
