Foursome

With a canceled lacrosse game today and no practice for T-man, we thought we would take the free time to go out to dinner. We didn’t get to go out as early as we planned as D-man ended up working late given he had no lacrosse game. The three of us chatted and waited for D-man at the restaurant and joked about this being the new normal. Then T-man asked what Marshall and I will do once the boys are gone - Nerf wars and pickle ball came up. We are definitely trying to get the foursome activities all in. 

Last Day Of Spring Break

The long drive home on Saturday was worth a day at home. We got some much needed things done around the house and D-man suggested a family outing (love). 

We had lunch outside at the taco wagon and then did a little hike along portions of Coal Creek and Rock Creek we had not done before. It was a nice day out and we got to update each other on our week of vacation. We wrapped it up with a quick stop at Sweet Cow before heading home. Definitely squeezing in every “family of four” moments we can.

Adulting

We made the most of our last day in Vegas with a day of “adulting.” The kids were also happy to have a day of chilling at home and not running around to various sites and locations. Win-win for everyone! The added bonus? An afternoon at the pool with my sister, her husband, a college friend and folks there to celebrate a 50th birthday party. The pool was not heated, but the 90 degree day certainly made for a fun day. 

We headed back to the house with Subway for the kids and showered up for our evening out. We are at Jaleo, a Spanish tapas place, in the Cosmo. We learned our lesson from Tuesday night and thankfully had a reservation. 

 

We walked the strip a bit, took on the fountains and found a Pai Gow table at the Paris hotel (which I like because it has high ceilings). We walked away collectively as winners for the trip, but I personally didn’t have as much luck on Friday night. But so wonderful to be out for the day before a long drive back on Saturday.

Hoover Dam and Mat Franco

Our Thursday plans came together over discussions in the hot tub and over on dinner on Wednesday. 

We ventured out to the Hoover Dam which definitely felt like the vacations of childhood. We all piled into the Wrights car for the adventure. We walked across the dam and also took the dam power plant tour. It was definitely worth the trip and T-man loved the engineering aspect of it all. 

We scrounged for food when we got back and a few people took a dip in the pool. We then headed out to see Mat Franco, a magician who won America’s Got Talent a few years ago. There were some cool tricks and he was a fun entertainer. A great pick for our show. 

We then walked around the strip for a bit. We caught the volcano show, the adults got cheap beers, the kids got gelato and we saw the gondolas at the Venetian and the beauty of the Wynn before calling it a night. T-man stated it was a great day at the end of the evening and that makes it all worth it.

Road Trippin’

When flights get expensive and you don’t plan your spring break trip, the car becomes your escape. We’ve always been a good road trippin’ family and COVID led us to become even more so. We packed our travel snacks and sandwiches and made it on the road by 7:40 am. 

After determining where we could drive and get to somewhere warm, Vegas was the spot. Unfortunately, D-man is not making the trip with us, but the Wrights found a place close to the strip with a pool.

We took advantage of our rental car to save even more money and made the trek in one day. T-man already loved the minivan, but even more so after traveling in a sedan - no movies and no screen for playing the wii. 

A booster the day before and a more boring ride led to a couple of naps. We drove some beautiful terrain, some desolate areas and hit both snow and rain before driving into 70 degree weather. 

We arrived in Vegas around 6:00 (thanks to the time change) and picked up groceries and sandwiches for dinner. It was an early night for us given Marshall and I worked on Monday, but great to know we have warm weather and vacation on the horizon.
