A Beautiful Day: Biking and Beers

Fortunately, I got my errands done this morning and then Marshall and I tackled the yard right after that. That meant, a free afternoon! A last minute chat with a friend ended up in a wonderful fall afternoon. We hopped on our bikes, headed down the bike path, and ended up stopping for a beer in downtown Louisville on the rooftop at Waterloo. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day - so nice to do something different!

Go Climb a Tree

It was a nice, lazy Saturday at the Peavy household. We had doughnuts, I tried out my new Instant Pot, D-man went golfing with his friend, Marshall ran some errands and T-man and I took a bike ride down the path to check things out. He was not excited to go, but once we got there, he had a fun time. We wrapped up the night watching football and making schotcheroos. I’m glad to have no plans this weekend as November is going to be crazy. 

Band Update

T-man is rocking the baritone. He is practicing hard, volunteering to play in front of the class, and having success. It is so nice to see him excited about it and doing well. He has earned his green belt already and ready for more. Love this self evaluation. 

No Cooking

Tonight, I was able to go on a walk while D-man and his friend cooked us dinner (another recipe from his Foreign Foods and Fabrics class). They did a great job with the meal, but it took longer to prepare than they were anticipating. Unfortunately, D-man spilled the pasta water on his stomach and has a pretty nasty burn. I wasn’t even thinking about this as a possibility so wasn’t there to help. Mom guilt kicks in. Now I’m worried about scarring as well. Worrying - another thing I’m good at..... 

Cake Boss

D-man has missed some cooking assignments in his Foreign Foods and Fabrics class so we got a couple of the recipes from his teacher at Parent-Teacher Conferences. Today he baked a chocolate cake from scratch. Our friend said her Dr. said that cooking was a good activity when you have a concussion so that works out well. He had a really fun time and the cake turned out well...... even if it looked like “chip” as T-man pointed out at dinner.

Date Night

Marshall and I aren’t ones for live music, but we ventured downtown to the Mercury Cafe with our good friends to see one of their favorite musicians play at the Mercury Cafe. We didn’t think we could make it originally because of a basketball tourney, but with D-man still not playing, we found a last minute sitter and reinvited ourselves. (We found out today it was their 15th anniversary - so glad we could celebrate this great couple!) 

The Mercury Cafe is a very eclectic place in a not so great area of Denver and we have never been. The music was great, the company wonderful, and we wrapped it up with champagne by the fire pit back at the Wrights.  We also realized that above the Cafe is where we took swing dance lessons for our wedding which we had completely forgotten. We don’t get to Denver very often so it was a really fun to do something different, where fancy shoes, go somewhere new, and celebrate our great friends.

2017 Fall Sports

Love having such a great group of boys playing together. The soccer season wrapped up with a 5-0 win over a good team from Monarch on a crisp, fall day. T-man played a great game. We’re excited to see what indoor soccer brings this fall!

Ok - so not really a party, but a nice enough night to have happy hour drinks and the boys playing in the yard (which of course, ended in a fight). After eating takeout, we watched the final flag football game of the season and then got Sweet Cow ice cream and some beers with the team. A great way to wrap up the season.

Thank You

Tonight we had Parent Teacher Conferences. It was one of the best ones we have had for T-man. We are so proud of how hard he is working and his “can do” attitude. His teacher talked about how far he has come in his writing and also his willingness to try (which we have been talking about a lot). One of the things that made me so proud is that we learned that everyday, T-man will tell Mr. Roberts “thank you.” Mr. Roberts said that he will even come back from his locker and say “Thank you for today.” (He even went on to say that he told his colleagues from his old school how this is the first student that has ever said thank you like his). His special ed teacher said he also says thank you every time he leaves her room and now the other kids in the group have followed his example. She said several times what a great kid he is. 

I am extremely proud of how T-man is working hard  and can see him growing more confident everyday. I can only hope that he continues to realize how unique and special he truly is. 

D-man’s conferences were fine and mostly spent talking about communicating with his teachers during his concussion. Not much else to say at this point. We have tried to use this as an example of all his hard work and effort paying dividends as teachers respect and trust him based on past efforts. 

Sporting Tuesday

Tuesday afternoon was busy with two sporting events. D-man had a flag football game against parents with his Monarch 8th grade football team which was followed by a BBQ. D-man was allowed to be the center and snap the ball. Unfortunately, these two full days of school have taken an obvious toll on him.... 

T-man had an impromptu soccer game against another rec league for the unofficial championship (these were the two best teams in the league but weren't scheduled to play each other). The Llamas ended up using a close battle 3-4 in what Marshall said "was the most exciting kids soccer game" he had seen.  Bummer to miss it. 

And while not sports related, T-man also has band on Tuesday and is now the only student in his band class that has his orange belt! He even volunteered to go first which makes me so proud of him. A couple weeks ago he was in tears about having to play in front of others and now he is practicing and working hard and gaining confidence. Victory.

I tried to make the most of my first trip to Baltimore (also known as Charm City which I just learned) for a speaking engagement at one of our partners. I ventured out both evenings - tonight was much better as I went out earlier, felt safer, and saw more sights.

25 Percent

Marshall watched the Broncos get defeated by the 0-5 Giants on Sunday night at Mile High. Luckily, it was a gorgeous night and he enjoyed wings with his friend before the game. With CU squeaking out a victory this weekend, our teams had a 25% win rate. Here's hoping for better next weekend. 

The boys and I enjoyed a quiet night at home and played a game of Ticket to Ride.

Washington D.C.

A MUCH delayed post (as I thought I didn't have any  pictures after dropping my phone in Pender) on D-man and his cousin's trip with Nana and Pop to Washington D.C. in June. As with any trip, there were some hiccups (D-man got sick, Pop hit his head on the nightstand, they had a bad restaurant experience), but it was a special trip and they got to see so many things. D-man's favorite was the flight museum and his cousin's was the Holocaust museum. They also went to Mt. Vernon, road the subway and took in the sites of the mall. What an amazing trip and wonderful memories for the kids and Mom and Dad.
