Music and Motion

T-man had his music performance today at school. The evening performance was canceled because of the snowstorm, but I was able to attend the school performance. T-man did great and it was fun to see them combining their science lessons on motion with music.

How does a couple spend their 14th(!) wedding anniversary? Parent-teacher conferences of course! That and a really nice evening having dinner in downtown Louisville at a new restaurant. Still learning new things about each other after all these years. Warms my heart. 

Reading with the Buffs

T-man earned two tickets to the Buffs/Oregon Women's basketball game on Sunday thanks to his reading work. He really enjoyed having Buff athletes come and read to his classroom and we were really cheering on #21 (one of the athletes to visit his classroom)! 

Even better, was having him read a book tonight and commenting on his much easier it was for him this time around.  What a great way to see his hard work in action. 

It was a great outing with T-man - what a special boy. We are so proud of him!!

Friday Night Festivities

Ridiculous drama for the YMCA 5th grade championship game on Friday night. In the end, it became a scrimmage because there were 3 6th boys on the other team. The boys were crushed, but they played well. We then enjoyed going out with the team for dinner. We wrapped up the evening attending the jazz band concert at school. Another great reminder of the community we are enjoying here in Louisville. 

Crazy Colorado Weather

We arrived home just a bit ago after deciding to wait out the weather and the traffic due to a winter storm that moved in on Sunday. The crazy thing is that we left our friends' house in the mountains with no snow and arrived home to 8 inches of snow and a broken umbrella.  While the roads weren't great at times, traffic was great and the drive uneventful.

Valentine's Day 2015

A relaxing day at chez de Smiley for our 2015 Valentine's Day. We watched ski racing, cooking shows, took naps, and enjoyed a nice walk. An amazing dinner of crab legs and steak and good conversation wrapped up a really nice day.

- Valentine's Day party at school

- 4-day weekend ahead (3 of them in the mountains) 

- 1st round victory in D-man's basketball tournament 

- T-man earning free basketball tickets to the CU Women's Buffs basketball game for his reading efforts 

- D-man being cast as Maurice (Belle's father) in "Beauty and the Beast."

A Professional Coach

For PE, D-man had to prepare a gymnastics routine with 10 moves. After consulting his personal gymnastics coach (aka Granddad), D-man received a recommended routine which he tweaked to play to his strengths. 

He practiced and perfected (Marshall also added in some finishing touches) and performed the routine today. He was called out by his teacher for his performance. He said there were others with better routines, but his played to his strengths and had good transitions. It was fun watching him work so hard and consult with Bob on improving it. The professional coaching definitely worked! What a great moment.

Spring-like Skiing in Steamboat Springs

What a nice 3-day weekend in Steamboat Springs - ski town USA. It was gorgeous weather Friday and Saturday and the drive here was uneventful. 

Our simple condo was perfect for our needs and it's always nice to be with another family. Winter carnival was this weekend - the longest running event of its type west of the Mississippi. We did catch the fireworks show which was nice - both boys came along which made it special.

Party On!

After a lot of scheduling nightmares, we were able to have a small friend party for D-man.  Four friends came over, played mini basketball and tag and then played Madden 2015 on the xbox one. Pizza and cake wrapped up the night. 

D-man thanked me for hosting the party and said he had a good time. Yeah.
