Happy Hallow-versary

Not surprisingly, the trick or treat traffic is less due to cold weather and snow. And while how we celebrate Halloween has changed, our feelings about Louisville have not. 

T-man still went over to the Martins for pizza and to hook up with his friends for trick or treating. He was unsure about his costume and unsure of actually going trick or treating. I think he enjoyed himself and had fun messing around with his friends. I explained that middle school is not too old to go out and enjoy being a kid! The parents did not socialize at the Martins as in years past, but I did stop and chat with the neighbors for a bit - one of which is the family we did our first Halloween with in Louisville. Always funny to relive the story of trick or treating with the former owner of this house. 

D-man went over to our friends’s house (their daughter is D-man’s age and was hosting the party). Marshall had a beer with a friend and we wrapped up the night with some homework.

Perspective

It was my theme word a couple of  years ago and it keeps coming back. It was on my mind during my follow up MRI today and showed up in the bulletin board at the school while we were there for Parent/Teacher conferences. Trying to keep it front and center these days. 

Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch

We were able to squeeze in a visit to the corn maze and pumpkin patch after school and work on Monday. We have been going on a weekday for several years now since it is so close and less busy. 

The weather mostly held out for us and we were shielded from the wind while in the maze. We all completed one of the mazes and while D-man completed the rest of the mazes, Claudia, T-man and I searched for pumpkins. Because of the cold weather a couple of weeks ago, we had to do some digging. But, we were able to find a couple that will work. I also picked up some gourds and as always, the boys got their pumpkin cookies. 

So happy Claudia could join us and so happy the boys still want to go and that I’m able to take them.

Weekend Festivities

It was a pretty relaxing weekend overall, but we were busy running here and there to get some things done. As always, it was great to have Claudia here to hangout with us and experience our Louisville life. 

Marshall and Claudia went out for happy hour while I went on  a walk with Alana before T-man’s last flag football game of the season. We then got takeout and hung out whole D-man was at the football game. 

Saturday was a gorgeous day which saw most of us playing disc golf while D-man played golf with his friend. We then had a nice dinner and watched the Cougs beat up on CU (T-man went to Terror in the Corn with a friend). I also got in a walk with friends and we ran some errands as well. 

Sunday was more of the same with less outdoor activities as it was cold and windy. But, there was lots of cribbage, a trip to the LEGO store (T-man) and basketball with a friend (D-man). 

And just like that, the weekend is over.

Golf Banquet

The 2019 Golf Banquet is in the books. They do a great job involving the boys and it is nice to see the boys interacting with each other and having a good time. The seniors named D-man “the golfer most likely to calculate the trajectory of his ball” and he received a calculator as his “gift.” 

D-man also won one of the drawings for a free Monarch golf pass and everyone on the team got a nice bag embossed with the team logo for their efforts this season. A nice way to wrap up the season.

Minne-Vacation

D-man spent the weekend in Minneapolis with the Marshall family. After arriving early Saturday morning (1:00 am), he enjoyed a variety of activities with the Marshall family - football in the park in the sleet/snow,  pre-game celebrations before watching the Huskers lose, sleeping in, Mall of America for mini-golf, lunch and a couple rides at Nickelodeon, and recreating the stein holding competition they saw at the tailgating.  

I love a lot of things about this weekend. The fact D-man wanted to go and cheer on the Huskers and stay with the Marshall family. The fact he played multiple football games with the Marshall boys in freezing wet weather. And especially the fact he surprised the Marshall boys with Legos he bought at the Mall on their pillows and Jacki saying what a nice young man he is.

Thankful

Today was a gorgeous, sunny fall day. Quite the change after temps in the teens at the end of the week. We were able to lounge around and get some things done around the house (including putting up the fall declaration) and then T-man and I went on a bike ride to downtown. We grabbed sandwiches from a new sandwich shop and then attempted to eat at the Steinbaugh Pavillion, but the wasps were too bad so we moved to a bench by the library. We then checked out books at the library and hit Sweet Cow before heading to Community Park to throw the frisbee. 

It was such a fun outing and the first time I had been on a bike since the day of the stroke (which T-man did comment on). I assured him that I am able to do anything and biking did not cause my stroke, but I do have to admit that it has crossed my mind because you are looking for a reason. I’m just glad to be able to ride because for several weeks after the stroke I was scared to get on a bike for fear of losing my balance and not feeling strong enough with my hand. Thankfully, it was no problem at all today.

Colorado Shootout

The Boulder County Soccer Club Blue Team participated in the Colorado Shootout at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park this past weekend. The team won and tied a game on Saturday and won Sunday morning to send them to the finals! 

While the team ended up losing in the finals, it was a great accomplishment to make it there and T-man had a fun time hanging with his teammmates. Fortunately, it was a beautiful weekend to be at the soccer fields. So proud of T-man and his team!

BROCO HOCO

I just got back from picking D-man up from the dance and taking him to his friend’s house for the after party and sleep over. It was nice to get to chat with him for a few minutes and see him. Next year, he won’t need me to pick him up or take him to pictures so I’m glad to have a reason to spend time with him. 

We also had a nice time this morning at the mall shopping for his suit. Our past trips to the mall have been stressful, but this trip worked out well and he felt great about his outfit. 

I came home after one of T-man’s soccer games to help D-man get ready. I was so happy just watching him tie his tie over and over to get the perfect alignment. I then dropped him off at a friend’s house before going to pictures. (He didn’t know why I went to pictures and then told me he understood after the pictures were over). 

The group went to the Olive Garden for dinner and didn’t get to the dance until 10:15 (dance ended at 11:00). Bummer. But, he had an nice time at dinner and I’m sure will have a nice time at the party. 

He didn’t have a date (nor did many of his friends) so he and his friend said that they were calling it “BROCO.” Sounds great time me. Homecoming 2019 is in the books.
