Today was the final day of our spring break vacation. While on vacation, I learned of one of my co-worker's passing. She was only 40 years old and leaves behind an 11 year old daughter. She battled cancer for over 8 years. While I didn't know Jen Coy very long, she was the kind of person that made an impact on everyone she met. She facilitated a team building activity for my team that was truly a great personal exercise for me. It was one of those personal/professional moments I will always be thankful for. She was a truly beautiful person (who loved great shoes) and always full of life - even though she was often in great pain and enduring so much.
The celebration of her life today was touching, humorous, and emotional. It was evident she had a wonderful family that loved her very much and worked very hard to keep her spirit alive during the service. There were jokes. There were tears. There were laughs. There was love. And most of all, there were a group of people there celebrating all that Jen Coy brought to this world. I will miss her laugh. Return Path will miss all she did for our wonderful culture. And, the world will miss the bright, positive person that Jen was. Today was truly a celebration of Jen's life and a reminder about what is truly important in life. Let me always remember all that I have to be thankful for and what kind of impact I want to have on others. Life indeed is short. Better make the most of it. And, make sure to wear fabulous shoes.

Just Like his Mother
Today I attended D-man's Suessical the Musical show at his school. He was very excited to do the show and have me attend. D-man and his buddy were fish and when it was their part of the show, D-man was directing the kids holding the water. They were obviously not doing the right thing.
Flash back 30ish years to the 4H talent show in the Covenant Church. Me. Telling the girls to stop clapping. They obviously weren't doing the right thing.
Just like his mother. Except he still can't sing. :)

Morning Coffee
A slumber party for D-man meant no one getting out of bed before 9. T-man and I made hot cocoa and coffee, read books, and played music. And yes, a special morning means cookies for breakfast. What a great way to start of another gorgeous day in Denver.

Basketball Boys
The basketball season for both boys wrapped up at the end of February. While T-man got a bit discouraged early in the season, he came on strong at the end scoring baskets in the last two games. He was so proud and we were proud of him for his increased focus and sticking with it.
D-man's team wrapped up the season with a great last game (D-man had 6 points) and a family celebration after the game. D-man earned the award for "hardest worker." And if you know our eldest, there couldn't have been a more fitting award (he was a pretty great shot too!).

The Blessing of a Great Teacher
It is hard to believe that our time at Greenwood Plaza Montessori is coming to an end in the next few months as our youngest will be going to Kindergarten this fall. This week, the teacher that both our boys had when they were 2-3.5 years old, is celebrating her 24th year at the school. Here's what I submitted to have read during the celebration next week. Thinking about the wonderful experiences our family has had at this school literally brings tears to my eyes. I can only hope that we continue to be blessed with wonderful, caring educators like Ms. Pearl throughout the next phase of our lives.
Ms. Pearl spoke at the first parent education night we attended at Greenwood Village Montessori. Our son wasn't even close to transitioning to her age group, but after the session, I told Marshall, "that is the teacher I want for our son." She was so knowledgeable and I knew she would be a great teacher for our son. And after being fortunate to have two sons go through Ms. Pearl's classroom, I couldn't have been more right. As Marshall says, not only were our children educated by Ms. Pearl, so were we. With all the studies that show how important early childhood education is throughout a child's school life (to middle school and beyond), our family has been so fortunate to have had such a wonderful teacher. It is teachers like Ms. Pearl that have made my children love learning and make it easier (because it is NEVER easy) for a 2-parent working family to leave their children in the care of others. Thank you Ms. Pearl for the positive affect you have had on our children and our lives.
