Roald Dahl Day

T-man and his classmates have been reading Roald Dahl books in literacy. Today, they celebrated with a Roald Dahl snack day. I made slackjaw (merengue and caramel) as did another Mom. All the kids liked hers better (no surprise here). It was fun to just be able to go and be there with T-man. The kids also had an assembly called "Rachel's Challenge" today (I went to the parent version tonight). At its core, just a good reminder about spreading kindness, supporting others, and looking for the good in others. The world could use a bit more of this right now........

Anniversary Date

We had a delayed anniversary date tonight given the basketball weekend. We headed over to our friends' house around 5 for some champagne and appetizers (cheaper to drink at home than go to happy hour). Then we headed to downtown Louisville for dinner at Zucca (we had a gift card from Return Path we cashed in). It was a very fun evening with good friends, good food, and nice conversation. The boys (mostly) survived at home with pizza and a movie.

That's a Basketball Wrap

Today ended up being the last basketball of the season for both boys. T-man's team played a really good team close so while they didn't win, they were cubed improved on the season. 

D-man's team was seeded 18 out of 51 and won two games last weekend to make it to the top 13 teams and the single-elimination tourney this weekend. So just making it to the tourney this weekend was a big deal. A victory last night was even sweeter. Unfortunately, the streak ran out and they lost against a good team from Frederick.

Here's to many more years with laughs, smiles, and good times with friends and family. We have certainly been fortunate to have more ups than downs and more of the same would be a blessing. 

 

The Long Road

After a morning of job searching and lunch with a former co-worker, I knew I wanted to get outside. I debated between my standard wall, a walk around the mesa and a hike. Marshall convinced me that I should go on a hike and gave me directions. There were two routes I could take. I had intended to take the shorter route,  but Marshall said the longer route wasn't too long. So, it was a game-time decision, but I took the long route and am glad I did! 

I made back in time to freshen up for happy hour at our house with Marshall's wonderful margaritas to celebrate National Margarita Day! After feeding the neighbors, I headed to a Meetup in Boulder for digital marketing female professionals. I think I earned a nice hike (and a margarita) for my job searching and networking activities today.

President's Day - Louisville Style

It has been many years since we have spent a President's Day weekend at home. But, thanks to basketball and budget constraints, we enjoyed a long weekend at home. While we had considered skiing today, we decided to stay put. T-man wanted to hit the skate park and golf; D-man had basketball and lacrosse on his list. Marshall and I got some errands run, took a beautiful hike, and made some pumpkin love. We got it all done.  Stay-cation complete.

Little Gym, Big Mouth

After a lazy Saturday, we had two basketball games (fortunately up the hill at Monarch High) today for D-man. Win them both, on to the tourney you go; lose, and your season is over. For the games, we were in the small gym which means one's voice (mine) was more audible. Even though we won't be first game easily, there were definitely some questionable calls (in my opinion) and this led to some quite loud commentary......

I told myself I would focus only on cheering on the team the next game and I did! The team was down 17-6 (to an 11-2 team) and came back to win 26-23. What an exciting game and it was impressive to see the team play with so much heart. 

We celebrated the victory with a root beer at a brewery here in Louisville. Someone is just a little bit excited in our house tonight.......

Party Bus!

A really fun evening last night celebrating a friend's 50th birthday. We took the party bus to a hip area near downtown Denver and spent the evening at Bierstadt Lager eating, drinking, chatting (and playing a round of euchre if you were me). Needless to say, the ride home on the party bus was a little more wild then the one to downtown. Fun to meet some new people and head out to somewhere new!

Evaluation

T-man and I spent the morning in Denver on Thursday. He finished up his DU psychology evaluation (4 hours worth) and I read a couple books and enjoyed the sunshine on a beautiful February day. We grabbed Noodles for lunch (we ate on the patio) and then came home and played Wazzu-opoly. It was a pretty intense morning for T-man I think, but he enjoyed not being in school and I enjoyed being able to enjoy the afternoon with him. Definitely some silver linings to this time off.

Valentime's Day

It was a low-key Valentime's Day (as D-man just to say) here at the Peavy household. We had our usual surf and turf and exchanged a few small gifts. We ate in the dining room per D-man's request which made for a nice evening (although T-man didn't really like any of his food). At least they both liked the cheap conversation hearts and sparkling cider.

Five-ever

Just had the boys drop off a movie at Redbox which happens to be in Mcdonalds. They requested french fries so I gave them a couple bucks and I waited in the car. 

When they came back to the car, D-man said, "that took five-ever." As those in the Peavy family know, that is longer than forever (one more to be exact). Made me smile to hear them quoting their granddad.

Due to overlapping schedules and travel plans, the Cy-hammers were without a coach this week so they called in the backup coaches.

I attended practice on Thursday night and then we had the big game this morning. Thanks to some mad skills from one of the players, we ended up winning the game (a big deal this season). What a fun game!

Down DU Memory Lane

We went down to DU today for the first of two evaluations for T-man. He had a 3-hour session and Marshall and I had a 1.5 hour session. After our session, I took Marshall to the light rail, I grabbed a coffee and then walked around campus. It was unseasonably warm and felt like a spring day (and made me want to go back to college!). Lots of new buildings, but the old ones are still there as well. Definitely brings back memories.

Nana and Pop Visit

So nice to have an unplanned visit from Mom and Dad for a long weekend. It was especially nice as I got to spend extra time with them during my life of leisure. 

Thursday afternoon and evening was pretty lowkey here at home. Friday saw us doing some shopping, errands, and a nice lunch at Lulu's in downtown Louisville. Then, we watched a movie on Friday night.

Saturday was a full day of watching T-man play basketball, more shopping, and a birthday celebration for D-man at The Melting Pot. We went at 3:00 as that was the only reservation we could get. All of us just tried to stay awake once we got home!

Sunday the weather was finally nice and after D-man's two morning basketball games, we took walks, played spike ball, did some scootering, haircuts, and made jambalaya for dinner. Nana played some games with the boys and we watched in disbelief that the Patriots won again...... such a treat to have them here with us.
