Happy Birthday to Our Big Boy

D-man started the day with a doughnut cake and then enjoyed an afternoon at the rec center shooting hoops and hanging with a friend. It was a surprise addition to his birthday which added to it. 

We all had a very nice time at the melting pot for dinner. We enjoyed an early meal and then walked over to the skating rink for writer skate. Both boys had a nice time (and want to do it more often) and we were happy that hardly anyone was there.

A great night out in Boulder. We watched D-man play an amazing basketball game with 6 points. Then we headed to Twisted Pine Brewery for dinner. Good beers, Good food, and a game of Apples to Apples while we finished dinner made for a fun family night. To wrap it up, we headed to Sweet Cow. Hard to believe it was 11 years ago tonight that I went into labor. It has been an amazing journey. 

Why Do They Have to Leave?

Separately, both boys lamented the fact that Nana and Pop are leaving tomorrow. We had a busy weekend filled with lots of different activities. It got up to 61 degrees today which brought walks, scooters, and basketball. We also enjoyed shopping at the mall for D-man's birthday (he has informed us he doesn't like shopping), a Nebraska Wesleyan Alumni event, and both YMCA and NCAA basketball during the weekend. We even got quite a bit of card games in. What a great visit.

Alpine Adventure

Another wonderful MLK weekend in the mountains. Skiing, tubing, hot-tubbing, playing games, and just chilling out with friends - a perfect winter weekend. And the bonus? Very little traffic either way! I'm beginning to think that MLK is going to be my favorite ski weekend. The one extra day really makes it feel like a true vacation.

What a surprise to wake up to a bit of new snow, no wind (it was VERY windy on Friday night), and a bluebird day. 

Great day on the mountain. D-man enjoyed skiing with his friend and T-man and I were great ski buddies. How fortunate we are to have been invited to stay with new friends from Louisville up here!

Our first card party in Louisville was a success! Good food. Good company. Good kids. Good laughs. And a use for the selfie stick (see below). 

 

The Joy of the Slow Chairlift

We made our first family ski trip of 2015. We traveled up to Eldora  - a mere 30 miles from our house. It was a chilly day with snow, but easy to get to and no lines. Woohoo! 

On the chairlift, T-man talked about how these are times we get to talk (which, of course, makes me happy). D-man lamented the fact they have no high-speed lifts at Eldora, but it does give us more time to chat. 

It really is a fun little mountain - small lodge, people (like us) bringing their lunch, and very much local. Can't wait to go back!

Up Until Midnight

The four us rang in the New Year at home in D-man's room at midnight. Both boys were excited to bring in 2015 and it was special to just celebrate with the 4 of us. 

Earlier in the day, Marshall and D-man went skiing and T-man hung out here me and Bob and Claudia. We baked treats, played games, and learned all about Skylanders. 

In the evening, we celebrated at a last-minute party at the neighbors. Lots of folks there so it was fun to see everyone. We joked that good thing there was this party otherwise we would all be home!
