D-man Reaches Double Digits

Today we celebrated D-man reaching double digits. While he was hoping for a snow day, we didn't get as much snow as was forcasted.  We celebrated with a candle in a Pop tart and singing happy birthday this morning and then a special fondue dinner in downtown Lousiville. D-man has been wanting to go to fondue for some time and it was a very fun and special evening. Both kids were so full and D-man couldn't help saying over and over "why is everything so good?" 

When we left, it was snowing and almost magical walking around downtown. It is hard to believe that for a quarter of my life, D-man has been in it and like D-man, I often wonder in one way or another -  "why is everything so good?" And then, I take stock of all that we have and am thankful that we do have it so good.

Ski Granby Ranch Weekend

This week we ventured off to Ski Granby Ranch with another family from Louisville with boys the same age as our kids. We skied on two gorgeous days. We played games and cards (pitch) and talked about Nebraska (as the Dad grew up in Wayne and went to WSC). 

It was a small mountain so we took LOTS of runs, explored the many terrain parks, and D-man and his friend got to go ski by themselves which was a big treat for them. And love that both boys pointed out the views to me separately - glad they still listen to my comments now and then. 

All and all, a successful weekend (except for another LONG drive down the mountain). See mountain goat diversion on the drive.

We booked a walk out/ski in property in Breckenridge on Thursday night. We made the choice to spend a bit more money and stay in town and closer to the slopes. And, boy has it been worth it. 

A blue bird day with no wind and temps around 30 degrees. We enjoyed happy hour at our condo and time in the outdoor pool - with lots of family laughs - and wrapped up in the hottub. 

Some good quotes from the pool: 

T-man: "watch the master." 

D-man: "I've got the underwater camera." (His goggles) 

D-man after checkling out the hottub: "there is no room. There are four people. (Pause). But they are fat guys."

Go Broncos!

Traffic on I70 is horrific so here we sit at the Dam Brewery in Silverthorne. Drinking flights of beers. Watching the Broncos on TV and streaming it on the iPad. Cheering on our team with other "stranded" fans. Making the most of a less than ideal situation. 

Epic Day

And epic crowds and epic backups on the drive up (5 hour drive) and back (5+ hours). All I can say is that it was an epic day on the slopes with great, great friends.

I didn't have enough holiday cards this year so I had to order a few "Happy New Year" cards to finish up our list.

Ski Season has Started

For the first time since we have had Colorado ski passes, we skied before the new year and were actually able to enjoy it with my sister and her hubby on their anniversary (my brave other sister and her husband took their girls for their first day on the slopes in Copper). Breckenridge actually had decent snow (although it was pretty wind blown and slick at the top) and both boys enjoyed bombing down the slopes for the first time this season! Looking forward to the rest of the ski season.

Tubing at Copper Mountain

One benefit of staying in Silverthorne was easy access to a variety of ski resorts. On Sunday, we all headed out to Copper Mountain for tubing and "Critterland" (for the young one in the group). It was a gorgeous, sunny day and tons of fun!

Christmas at St. Andrews Lane

A few pictures of our house all decorated for Christmas. It was fun decorating with the boys and determining which decorations to put up, where to put them up, and which ones to donate. While this is our 2nd Christmas at this house, it is the first one where we decorated the entire house. Merry Christmas!
