Holi-ski

Skiing this year is more complicated. Reservations are needed for the skiing or the parking (depending on the resort). We’ve got our 10 days reserved at Winter Park, but don’t have any parking reserved at Copper. Luckily for us, D-man has been trolling the parking spots for Copper and snagged one for today. We are still trying to figure out how spots open up. We theorize that checking the day/night before is the way to go when people decide they won’t be going up for the day.

Regardless of how we got it, we got one! And thanks to D-man we were pulling out of the driveway at 7:15 and made it up to Copper before nine - even with a stop for Big Mama’s Burritos.

We had some sun, some flurries, some wind, some cold hands and toes, but a good time had by all. It’s great to have an activity we can do during break.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Christmas morning was a typical one here, but the lack of travel on the night of Christmas was not. Marshall cooked a turkey which cut into some of the gift opening time much to T-man’s dismay. But, it allowed us to extend the gift opening which was nice. We played Skip-bo (a new game), had egg casserole and cinnamon rolls for breakfast and had a delicious turkey meal for dinner. T-man got outside to test out his new throwing knives, I took a nice walk and D-man and I shot hoops.

We wrapped up the evening driving around to check out some holiday lights. D-man took us to Broomfield for some interactive lights and we drive around Louisville a bit. A nice way to wrap up our Christmas Day.

My Favorite Day of the Year

When I tucked T-man into bed on Christmas Eve, I mentioned how it was my favorite day of the year - he couldn’t believe it wasn’t Christmas Day. Jaima also stated on Facebook it was her favorite day - lots of good memories for Christmas Eve.

D-man went skiing, I worked and T-man and Marshall hung out for the day. We kicked off the evening festivities over at the Wrights and then had our typical Christmas Eve activities: chowder, opening a few presents and just enjoying being together. We also threw in a couple games of pitch with Nana and Pop.

Marshall and I actually got the gifts all wrapped before 11:00 - WOW! Merry Christmas to all.

Christmas Traditions

Some traditions - some old - some new....

I always do a bit of holiday baking, but tried something new this year.  The peanut butter balls look terrible, but taste very good. I also made Chex mix which is a holiday staple.

And I hadn’t gotten out my nativity out in many years (I bought it in college with Christmas money from my Nana), but decided to take out this year so we could feature our pooping man from Spain and have a constant memory of our trip and also of my Nana.

Holiday Cards

The cards surely crept in at a much slower pace this year. And given the year we have had, you can certainly appreciate that people don’t want to spend the effort/don’t have as much to write about/don’t want to remember the year, etc.

However, our wall has slowly filled up with cards from family and friends and it makes me smile. We got our cards out this Monday so some folks will hopefully receive before for Christmas. If not, we will be spreading cheer al the way until the end of 2020 - I think everyone can use more cheer this year.

Blossoms of Light

We wrapped up the weekend with an evening in Denver. We picked up calzones and headed to Nadja’s to say hello to the dog and chickens and enjoy an outdoor meal. The 50 degree weather even with the sun down made it quite pleasant.

We then headed over to the Blossoms of Light at the Botanic Gardens for a Covid friendly activity. It was great to participate in a holiday activity and spend some time catching up with Nadja. We wound our way through downtown to look at some more lights before heading home.  A wonderful way to wrap up a wonderful weekend.

T-man somehow spotted a Marshall’s Delight plant - I really should be standing next to this sign!

So pretty!

Holiday Cheer

Ready to host guests under our heating lamps. Mulled wine, snacks, blankets and great company. T-man also got a peppermint pie from Sweet Cow for his birthday. What. Great evening!

Noel and Lo-well

On Saturday, I was signed up to volunteer with Senior Hub and deliver meals and presents to elderly people. T-man headed out with me and it was a really great morning. We grabbed Ziggi’s before we headed out and then picked up the meals and gifts and headed out on our route. T-man was an amazing navigator and little elf. T-man made every delivery, and he dutifully crossed the names off the list, got the addresses ready for us and safely to our destinations.

As he was giving directions, we ended up on Lowell Street which T-man pronounced “Lo-well” and you can certainly see how that would be the case. We laughed a lot about it and I pointed out how it rhymed with Noel.

After we finished, we grabbed burritos and DQ on the way home. It brought up memories of doing meals and wheels with Mom and I was definitely happy T-man could come along. During a time of such isolation and challenges, it was nice to be able to deliver some cheer and smiles to those that as fortunate as we are.
