Red Robin

After a long week, we were unsure what to do for dinner last night. It was a gorgeous night and as usual, we weren’t cooking. We thought about heading to downtown Louisville for outdoor dining on Main Street, but T-man doesn’t really like many of those restaurants. 

With D-man out with a friend, we let T-man decide. Marshall had the idea of Red Robin (which T-man was all in favor for) and confirmed they had outdoor seating. It was a lovely evening on the make shift patio and it was good to get out of the house. We came home and walked around the neighborhood before T-man and I watched a couple of our shows.

Regional Golf

D-man was able to attend the regional golf tournament as an alternate (the original alternate wasn’t able to go because of exposure to COVID). As an alternate, you get to go around and watch the team on the course - D-man loves it! Very glad he was able to go cheer his teammates on.

We Be Driftin’

How fortunate are we to have friends living in the mountains who willing host us several times a year? These getaways are even more special during these most unusual times and time with close friends is so cherished. 

Our visit was like many others - card playing, good meals and catching up. However, we had a special treat this time as we learned Dave and Rachel bought a cabin in Fulford - an old mining town that now is home to a variety of cabins. We had been up here before with them for a party, but this time we took the ATVs up the back roads as the main road was under construction. It was a beautiful (and fun!) drive up to the cabin. We had lunch, played some cards and drove the 4-wheeler around (with an abundance of caution - we each reminded them of the accident one of the neighbor boys had on one). What a unique way to spend the day. T-man was hesitant to drive, but he took a few turns and started to enjoy it. 

Marshall and I both took off Monday and the boys didn’t have school so it was the perfect long weekend and truly a vacation-like experience. When D-man and I were out on the ATV, I said, “we have a pretty good life.” And D-man said, “heck yeah!” I’m glad he realizes it.

Morning Date

Marshall and I were up early this morning and I suggested we head downtown for coffee and breakfast. We went to Moxie that wins awards for for their bread. Louisville has blocked off Main Street and we haven’t taken advantage of it. It was a beautiful morning and we enjoyed our breakfast outside, walked around downtown and hit the farmer’s market. 

It was a great kick off to our 3-day weekend after playing in an impromptu Couple’s Scramble ser up by on of the neighbors. Fun fact - we met D-man’s girlfriends parents as they were part of the golf outing. It is a small town here in Louisville for sure.

Working From Home

Today was a rough day. I don’t know exactly why - but I was feeling overwhelmed and inadequate. It is certainly made tougher with all of the things we are all juggling. Finding time for work, time for helping with homework, time with the kids that isn’t school and time for ourselves is also difficult. 

And yet, there are benefits to having us all home. T-man could tell my work was stressful today (I was taking a few deep breaths) and he came over, gave me a hug and did a couple breaths with me. T-man is signed up for the 100 hundred mile walking/running club and we have started walking together. We are trying new routes and measuring them on Strava. He was not excited about it as first, but now he is telling me how fun it is. With his current schedule, D-man is able to work during the day for a couple hours and can walk to work. Marshall and I are often ships passing by, but we do get to catch up here and there. And of course, there is just more time in our days with no commuting (and a bit of sleeping in too). 

I do admire how the boys are continuing to push through with their studies. T-man has P.E. videos and he is actually doing them. He told me today that I should have joined him for his yoga video (I agree!). And for a dyslexic kid, being home means leveraging voice to text more because you aren’t worried that anyone is watching. D-man continues to leverage his schedule and get things done in available time slots.  

Here’s to continuing to fight through - even when it is hard. As I say to the boys, we don’t give up. 

First Day on the J-O-B

Today D-man went to the first day of his first job. He got a job at the golf course and worked 6 hours today (2 hours over lunch and then 4 hours after school). 

With the golf team wrapping up, he will have more time in his schedule and it will be good to have some more rigor in his schedule. 

Mommy’s Rookie

D-man and I volunteered at A Precious Child this morning. We sorted clothes, helped clean up the shoe area and then hung clothes. It’s always nice to spend time together and also do something good for others. We found an outfit that said Momma’s Rookie. The boys call each other rookie quite frequently so seeing this shirt was perfect. D-man has completed his 20 hours, but he said he would do more with me because it is good to have something to do. Not exactly philanthropic, but I’ll take what I can get these days. 

We sorted through a couple different bins of T-shirts that were never used due to Covid. Sad reminder of the situation. 

Coal Creek Scramble

The Monarch Boys Golf team hosted a scramble at Coal Creek on Friday. It was a perfect day for golf with weather in the mid-sixties.  I was fortunate to get away for a long lunch and walk the entire back nine and Marshall joined for the last five holes. D-man and his partner played well and were 2-under going into the last hole, but then had a double bogie to end the round at even par. They were bummer to wrap up that way, but D-man said that it was a fun day.

Another Four Walls

We didn’t have any Labor Day plans as we didn’t know what this most interesting time would bring. Thanks to Alana and some last minute searching, we were able to get away for the long weekend. As Alana said, at least it would just be another four walls to stare at (and reprieve from the almost 100 degree weather in Louisville). Of course, it was so much more than that. 

We hiked, we biked, we played games, we walked around Keystone and spent some fun time on Lake Dillon. While Marshall and Paul and two of the boys went golfing on Saturday, T-man and I headed to the lake with the other two members of the Wright family.  We had two paddle boards and a kayak and after paddling into the wind, we decided to enjoy happy hour and float back to shore. This ended with a can of champagne at the bottom of the lake, a capsized kayak and many laughs. 

We ended up tying together and floating in which meant we had to introduce Alana and her daughter to “Redneck Yacht Club” and we have determined the four of us are the founding members of Louisville, Colorado chapter. 

Sunday brought another happy hour trip to the lake after a trip to Keystone and a then a yummy meal prepared by the Wrights. We enjoyed our late checkout on Sunday and did a little alpine hike on our way back to Louisville. I’m so glad we were able to get away - it definitely felt longer than the three days away.
