Peavy Patio Party

Ok - so not really a party, but a nice enough night to have happy hour drinks and the boys playing in the yard (which of course, ended in a fight). After eating takeout, we watched the final flag football game of the season and then got Sweet Cow ice cream and some beers with the team. A great way to wrap up the season.

Tonight we had Parent Teacher Conferences. It was one of the best ones we have had for T-man. We are so proud of how hard he is working and his “can do” attitude. His teacher talked about how far he has come in his writing and also his willingness to try (which we have been talking about a lot). One of the things that made me so proud is that we learned that everyday, T-man will tell Mr. Roberts “thank you.” Mr. Roberts said that he will even come back from his locker and say “Thank you for today.” (He even went on to say that he told his colleagues from his old school how this is the first student that has ever said thank you like his). His special ed teacher said he also says thank you every time he leaves her room and now the other kids in the group have followed his example. She said several times what a great kid he is. 

I am extremely proud of how T-man is working hard  and can see him growing more confident everyday. I can only hope that he continues to realize how unique and special he truly is. 

D-man’s conferences were fine and mostly spent talking about communicating with his teachers during his concussion. Not much else to say at this point. We have tried to use this as an example of all his hard work and effort paying dividends as teachers respect and trust him based on past efforts. 

Sporting Tuesday

Tuesday afternoon was busy with two sporting events. D-man had a flag football game against parents with his Monarch 8th grade football team which was followed by a BBQ. D-man was allowed to be the center and snap the ball. Unfortunately, these two full days of school have taken an obvious toll on him.... 

T-man had an impromptu soccer game against another rec league for the unofficial championship (these were the two best teams in the league but weren't scheduled to play each other). The Llamas ended up using a close battle 3-4 in what Marshall said "was the most exciting kids soccer game" he had seen.  Bummer to miss it. 

And while not sports related, T-man also has band on Tuesday and is now the only student in his band class that has his orange belt! He even volunteered to go first which makes me so proud of him. A couple weeks ago he was in tears about having to play in front of others and now he is practicing and working hard and gaining confidence. Victory.

I tried to make the most of my first trip to Baltimore (also known as Charm City which I just learned) for a speaking engagement at one of our partners. I ventured out both evenings - tonight was much better as I went out earlier, felt safer, and saw more sights.

25 Percent

Marshall watched the Broncos get defeated by the 0-5 Giants on Sunday night at Mile High. Luckily, it was a gorgeous night and he enjoyed wings with his friend before the game. With CU squeaking out a victory this weekend, our teams had a 25% win rate. Here's hoping for better next weekend. 

The boys and I enjoyed a quiet night at home and played a game of Ticket to Ride.

Washington D.C.

A MUCH delayed post (as I thought I didn't have any  pictures after dropping my phone in Pender) on D-man and his cousin's trip with Nana and Pop to Washington D.C. in June. As with any trip, there were some hiccups (D-man got sick, Pop hit his head on the nightstand, they had a bad restaurant experience), but it was a special trip and they got to see so many things. D-man's favorite was the flight museum and his cousin's was the Holocaust museum. They also went to Mt. Vernon, road the subway and took in the sites of the mall. What an amazing trip and wonderful memories for the kids and Mom and Dad.

Simple Pleasures

No school today meant a day at home for the boys. Each of them played with friends. D-man took a nap this afternoon and T-man built an air gun and balloon shooter. Tonight, we attended T-man's flag football game and then had beers and dinner with friends at a new place in Louisville. Simple. Pleasures.

That was a Week?!

Marshall took Claudia to the airport early this morning after her week-long visit. We had mostly good weather and the time flew by quickly. It was a great help to have her here shuttling D-man back and forth from school due to the concussion. On the bright side, it allowed them to spend more time together (and as D-man said, he wasn't as bored because he was spending time with Claudia). Unfortunately, it also means that D-man has still not made it through a full day of school in the last two weeks. He went to science this morning and was home the rest of the day...... here's hoping the long weekend helps the recovery. 

We spent time outside, Marshall worked from home a bit more and there were cribbage games played and good food eaten. We also hit happy hour at Via Toscana and Sweet Cow the last night Claudia was here. It was so great to have her here to experience our Colorado life and having her here to help with D-man was greatly appreciated. Thank you for visiting Claudia - it went by so quickly!

20 Years Ago

Thanks to my sister, I was reminded that 20 years ago today we wrapped up our European summer. She immediately did a detailed scrapbook. My mementos are still in a plastic bin. And while you can point to many thing in our lives we might still do differently, one thing is for certain, our European experience was one that shaped us both and one we will never forget. It was an amazing experience we shared. And thanks to Jaima's detailed scrapbook, we will remember every detail of our adventure. 

Summer-like Saturday

What a beautiful day we had today! We kicked it off with a big soccer victory and had the rest of the day to continue enjoying the amazing day. Marshall and his Mom hit the Farmers's Market and a brewery, we enjoyed some time on the deck, T-man trimmed our tree, and I got in a walk. We watched the Cougs win and the Huskers lose. D-man attended his basketball game and was in bed by 8:30. He's definitely getting better, but not 100%.

Friday night football under the lights was a bit chilly, but so much fun to cheer on T-man as he scored two touchdowns and also had another catch!! He also ran the mile today at school in 7:22. Way to go son!! 

Since the game was a later game in Lafayette, we headed over to a brewery over there before the game and had some food and beers. A nice way to kick off the weekend.

Weekend Happenings

Just a few more shots of  our weekend happenings last weekend. Pretty low key weekend which was great and obviously needed by our eldest. So happy to be able to have Mom and Dad here for their annual fall visit.
