Claudia’s Visit

What a wonderful week we had with Claudia here. We had mostly great weather between some wet/chilly weather. Marshall and I unfortunately had to work, but we all managed to get by (and we were able to take a short break here and there between meetings). D-man was balancing a lot with work and school, but we got in some activities together. 

Over the weekend, we got in a couple hikes/walks and watched volleyball. We enjoyed celebrating Claudia’s birthday on Monday while she was here. As the boys have asynchronous learning on Mondays, they got their studying done in the morning and then went out for lunch with Claudia in downtown Louisville. Claudia was able to take T-man to the dentist and we all enjoyed burgers for dinner before opening presents and having cake.  

The rest of the time was spent cooking, playing games and having Claudia try out the Oculus (virtual reality). Lots of laughs to be had by all. So thankful for science, vaccines and surviving the last year so we can have these special times again.

D-man received a mailer from Nebraska Wesleyan today and put on his NWU shirt before heading over to Hadley’s house. I don’t know what he is thinking regarding college, but we are definitely starting to talk more about it. 

Spring (Winter) Escape

The boys didn’t have school this Friday and Monday and Winter Park was running some pass holder specials so we booked a last minute trip to Winter Park. We took two cars because D-man was supposed to work on Saturday. And of course, there was a snow storm so T-man and I took off as early as we could to try and get over the pass before the roads got really bad for the minivan. It was not a fun drive, but we made it. Marshall and D-man were it too far behind us and we spend the night eating McDonald’s, catching up on some work and watching the WSU women’s team Coug it in the NCAA volleyball tournament. 

Marshall and I worked from the hilts room (which had a little kitchenette and dining room table we could work from), the boys went skiing in the morning, came back for lunch and went out again in the afternoon (hitting every open lift). The mountain got 10 inches of snow so it was pretty good skiing for April. Marshall, D-man, and I ventured out to the village for happy hour (cheap beers for pass holders). We sat by the fire, chatted with some other skiers and enjoyed being away from home. We picked up food to take home (had to pívot because the pizza place was closed due to lack of cheese) and came back to play euchre and watch the movie Rio. It was a fun family evening. 

Snow (5-6”) in Louisville meant that D-man did not have to leave on Saturday morning for work and we all skied together on Saturday. It was still below 32 so the snow stayed and we even hit some fresh powder. What a treat - no boys commented separately to Marshall and me on what a great day it was. And no traffic on the way home was an added bonus. 

We wrapped up the day with the cards and dinner at the Wright’s and D-man hosting his golf teammates/coworkers for pizza and poker. And...... we still have Sunday!

A New Bike

A few weeks ago, T-man’s bike was stolen from our neighbor’s front yard. We later learned that many other bikes have been stolen from people’s garages and throughout town. 

Last weekend when Mom and Dad were here and learned of this theft, they wanted to help replace the bike. We did a bit of research and Marshall talked with his friend who is a huge biker and we had an idea of what we wanted. We headed to a local bike store in Boulder and they didn’t have the bike we were looking for, but we learned a lot. One of those things was that the shipment with the bike we wanted was 10 weeks out. 

Today, I decided to search locations in the metro area that would carry the desired bike and found one in Boulder! I ordered it and we picked it up a couple hours later. T-man is was able to show Nana and Pop the new bike via FaceTime and then we took a ride downtown to get a library book and Sweet Cow. 

T-man is so happy (and thankful) and that means we are happy.

Couples Tourney

It was a chilly night for golf, but sunny and fun to be out on the course. We didn’t shoot great, but saved even par on the last putt (which was not easy).  Marshall played well and we used a decent amount of my shots as well.

Nana and Pop

It is always great to have Mom and Dad out to visit, but even more special after the Covid separation and isolation. The weather was agreeable for their visit and we filled the time with walks around the block, cards, good food and time together. Unfortunately, Marshall and I were working and the boys at school and we had to deal with cleaning day, but Mom and Dad managed. D-man also had to work a fair bit, but we made the most of the time when he was home. 

We had takeout sushi on Friday night after happy hour on the porch. I went out for doughnuts and coffee on Saturday morning -  a special treat! We took a drive up to the mountains on Saturday and ended up at Gross reservoir where none of us had ever been. The journey there was quite an adventure in the minivan, but we made it. We came back home through Boulder and relaxed in the afternoon - watching basketball and eating dinner on the back patio. Covid has done a good job of reminding us of what is important and helping keep things in perspective.

Happy Easter

It was a beautiful weekend for Easter (which at this house means Easter eggs and getting a ham on sale). We dyed eggs during the basketball game Saturday night and did our egg hunt in the afternoon to account for D-man’s work schedule. Nana hides eggs well - D-man still has 3 more to find!

Mom and I tried (unsuccessfully) to find some additional candy on sale, but we survived. We also watched the women’s basketball final, shot nerf blasters, and played corn hole and Michigan Rummy. 

We ate dinner outside and the meal was delicious! Marshall did the ham on the smoker - yum! A very nice day and a special treat to have Mom and Dad here with us.
