Lottery Losers

We have spent quite a bit of time talking about what we would do if we won the MegaMillions this week. It has been fun to fantasize about what we would get, do, buy, etc. if we won the prize. We even had an agreement on how we would split it up if we had won. 

We made sure to stop and buy tickets on Thursday when we stopped in Harrison for gas. D-man even picked up two more tickets in Friday (now that he is 18). 

Unfortunately, we didn’t win, but I would say that it gave us $20 worth of entertainment for sure.

The Shadowy St. Joe

After a stop in Harrison for gas (and lottery tickets), we made our way up the St. Joe River. The St. Joe is one of two main rivers that feeds the CDA lake (the other is the Couer D’Alene River which we biked down the other day). 

It is a challenging to get there as you have to follow the river channel or get stuck in the shallow water. We got turned around a bit as we entered the channel,  it soon figured out our way. We have been up the CDA river quite a bit in the last several years, but have not ventured up the St. Joe for many years (the last time was to the park when the kids were little). 

There is a new dock in place now and we enjoyed a picnic lunch and the guys enjoyed frisbee games off the dock. There were very few boats and it was a nice excursion for the day. 

We wrapped up on the dock, a bit a tubing for the boys and a game of five crowns after dinner.

Trail of the Couer D’Alenes

We got an “early” start on Tuesday to get in a bike ride before it got really hot. We decided to hit a part of the trail we had not done before and do a longer ride. 

Marshall was kind enough to drop us at the trail head in Catalgo. T-man did the driving and it took about 1 hour and 15 minutes to get us around the lake and up drop off spot. 

The ride was somewhat shaded at the beginning, but we were mostly in the sun for the ride. We road along the river the entire way, but much of the trail was cutting through the marshes that are near the river. We saw deer, two moose, a heron and several birds. 

We made a couple of stops to read the information signs. We also stopped to use the bike repair kit at one of the trailhead to tighten D-man’s handlebars and had another stop for our snack. 

We found a lovely shaded table for our lunch before finishing up the last two miles of the ride. We treated ourselves to ice cream in Harrison while we waited for Marshall to come pick us up in the boat. Matthew was surprised our ride only took us three hours. 

I’m glad we started when we did because by the end of the trip it was hot! What a fun new adventure for us all!

It can be difficult to turn off the mind at times when on vacation. I have plenty that keeps me busy here, and I am well aware of turning off from work. But, that doesn’t always make it easy. But, I’ll do my best!
