A Birthday Party

My 50th birthday pool party ended up being rained out - I kept thinking the weather would clear enough to have the party outside, but that was not the case. So, we hosted a party here and I was touched by how many people came and how celebrated I felt. It was a low key affair with champagne and cake with our Photo Booth pictures thrown in. 

A great way to wrap up an amazing birthday week with friends AND family. Here’s to another decade and whatever it may bring! 

Sister Surprise!

I was completely surprised on Sunday by my sister and my niece making an appearance for my 50th birthday party!! With all the things going on on her life, I cannot believe she would make an effort to come and surprise for my party. 

Everyone pulled it off and I had no idea it was in the works. I was laying in bed checking news and the boys came in with cards and then Jaima and Alyssa showed up right behind them! I was completely shocked and didn’t know what to make of it. 

Even though quick, Jaima and enjoyed setting up for the party (Jaima worked her magic with what little I gave her) and we were able to catch up here and there during the party. The best decorating was leveraging my “Jules Rules” sign for a make shift Photo Booth. 💕

We also got some time in the car ride home. It was a quick 8 hours here, but meant the world to me (as it was an 18 hour effort for Jaima and Alyssa). 

It truly was a week of feeling the love from so many and having Jaima and Alyssa here was the icing on this 50 year old’s birthday cake.

Colorado 13er

Drake signed up for a half marathon in Louisville this weekend. It was an early start nd what ended up being very wet race. 

We were able to stop and cheer him on a couple different places and met him at the finish line. He won 1st place for his age group and finished sub two hours.

 

We celebrated at Locos Hermanos and then he came home and took a warm shower. Way to go Drake!

Cabo Wrap Up

Our flight was delayed an hour so we got an extra hour to relax at the condo and wrap up. Not much more to say than thankful for an amazing trip (and realizing how nice the sun es for a week during another tiny su here in Louisville).

Chileno Beach

Ricardo (the cab driver) may have steered us wrong with the restaurant, but he redeemed himself with the beach recommendation. We spent six hours relaxing, eating, swimming and exploring. The water was a refreshing temperature, the weather lovely and just enough breeze. There are only a few swimmable beaches in Cabo and Chileno was a great one. There was plenty of parking and a nice boardwalk down to the beach. 

Unlike many beach vacations we have taken in the past, Cabo is in a desert so it was not a humid heat which was amazing. It did mean that the terrain was desert and very desolate looking, but it was not the stifling heat you can get when you go south. Another pleasant surprise was the rainy weather we left behind in Colorado. It easily could have been the same weather in Louisville which does not make it seem as much as a getaway. 

It certainly was a relaxing week away after a crazy May. What a way to run in the new decade. Lucky me.

Art Walk and The Casa Bonita de Cabo

Sadly. Dave and Rachel left us on Thursday. Marshall and I took them to the airport and then stopped at the grocery store for additional provisions. 

It was another rough day in Cabo - sun, pool, drinks, friends. All goodness. 

We then had a taxi take us into town for the art walk. It was a bustling evening with vendors, streets shut down and music. 

We ended up at the Casa Bonita of restaurant thanks to the recommendation from our cab driver - sigh. But, we had some good laughs. The downtown was so cute with all the lights and flags up. 💕💕💕

Shades of Blue

The things you think of sitting next to the pool…. So many shades of blue - the sky, the sea, the pool. It’s kind of like life - there are shades of happiness, shades of sadness, shades of anger. And all of these things is what makes life interesting. The good is only appreciated when you have some difficulties.

I am certainly thankful for my journey which has had more blue sky, than gray. But, I wouldn’t be who I am without those bumps. 

And this has been our private pool so we have been able to enjoy the shades of blue all by ourselves. 

And…. Because I always like to remember our trips… Here’s the high level summary…..

Saturday - arrive. Pool time. Welcome food and drinks prepared by chef. Sunset beach walk. 

Sunday - day at the beach club. Food. Drinks. Steak dinner. Hot tub. 

Monday - birthday!! Massages, lunch at the pool, shopping in San Jose del Cabo, birthday apps, margaritas, and dinner prepared by chef. Walk along beach. 

Tuesday - outing to los cabos. Lunch at el Sur. Walk medano beach, taxi to lover’s beach. Flora Farms. 

Wednesday - pool day. San Jose del Cabo with Smileys for dinner. 

Thursday - pool day. Art walk in San Jose del Cabo with the Wrights. Dinner at Restaurant Jazmin. Enjoying the lights of the town. 

Friday - (this is what we are planning). beach trip for a swimmable beach. Picnic on beach. Prepare dinner at condo. 

Relaxation

Wednesday was a day of relaxing by the pool. I spent quite a bit of time at the pool - reading, chatting, wading - relaxing - and folks joined throughout the day. After time at the pool, we played a couple games before heading to San Jose del Cabo with the Smileys for dinner. It was lovely to see the town lit up at night. 

When we got back to the condo, we enjoyed champagne and Ted Lasso. Then, some folks watched rugby before bed.
