Cabin Part One

The first part of our cabin trip was not as warm as we are used to, but it is hard to have a "bad time" at the cabin. And as it happens at the cabin, you pass the time "doing something." Here are a few shots of us "doing something - hanging on the dock, taking the pedal boat back after the boys swam across the bay (the ride back was more dangerous than then swim across the bay), doing tasting at the distillery, throwing frisbees, shooting guns, playing games (although no pics of that), reading, hot tubing, the boys canoeing to the boat in campground and getting soaked by a random rain storm on the way there. 

Such a gift to be able to "just be" and enjoy such a beautiful setting.

CDA Casino Trip

With the weather a little chilly on Wednesday, we made an afternoon trip to the casino after a lazy morning at the cabin. As you only had to be 18 to enter, we could all go. 

The boys each got a players card which game them $10 of free play, and everyone got another $5 of free play on "winning Wednesday."  We gave the boys $20 to play as well. 

We played a few slots, some blackjack with the "electronic dealer" and some really old video poker. A couple of us came back with some money and some folks said "I should have cashed out." A life lesson in gambling. 

Utlimate Youth Club Championship - 5th Place!

We spent the first weekend of August watching the Colorado Cutthroat Ultimate team compete in the Youth Club Championship. The team was seeded 7th and went 2-1 in their pool to win their pool (winning the tike breakers). The team had a heartbreaking loss on Sunday afternoon (Tanner played one of his best games), but came back fighting on Monday to win two games and place 5th!  During the final game, the team was down by three points and it looked grim, but the team ripped off seven straight points and didn't look back. Here's a catch from the last game. 

The Ultimate community and this team have been such a positive experience for Tanner. His high school coach was volunteering today and came by to cheer the team on and the other Cutthroat teams always go to cheer on the other teams. The community is such a huge part of this sport and that has been wonderful for Tanner (his high school coach calls him "the mayor of Ultimate" which is definitely a fitting nickname. 

Drake came home from Chicago on Sunday afternoon and was able to cheer along with us on Sunday afternoon and Monday. The event ended with a end of season celebration at the Denver Beer Hall where the teams celebrated together.  I only cried a bit when I was thanking Tanner's coach and all she has done for this team and Tanner.  And just like that, our youth sports season of life is now complete and I wouldn't change it for the world. 

JWill Pink Village Tequila Tasting

On Friday night, Marshall and I attended a fundraiser for JWill Pink Village. JWill Pink Village was founded by our friend Jen Willard, who is a breast cancer survivor. We met her through Drake, as Drake was good friends with her younger son. The organization sews pillows for women who have had a mastectomy to protect their chests when the are wearing their seatbelts. They have been around for almost 8 years and have delivered over 9,000 pillows. 

Drake's former classmates were the hosts for the event (along with one of their moms). Many of Drake's friends also attended which was fun to see. We had some good local Mexican food, learned about a variety of tequilas, made margaritas and had a gorgeous evening on the hosts' deck overlooking the FlatIrons. 

As we left, I mentioned to Marshall that one thing I love about a true community is that you have generations attending these events together. It was nice to be supporting a good cause and sampling some really good tequila. 

A Week with Tanner

 Marshall and I both had a week alone with Tanner at the end of July due to work travels. I know it was special for both of us to have some extra time with him before he heads off to Iowa. Last week, Marshall and Tanner grilled burgers and went to the F1 movie. 

This week, Tanner and I did a free donut run together (as well as Target). We made focaccia bread together that served as the base for our panini, made ooey gooey butter cake we have been enjoying and  watched the Kpop movie on Netflix (fun!) one night and started our new lego sets another.  I didn't do a good job catching the moments on camera, but they are definitely captured in my heart.
