Straight Hair

Apparently, T-man doesn't want curly hair as the kids at school call him "cute." So after a haircut yesterday, Marshall styled his hair with gel today. Wow - what a big boy!

Beer Garden Happy Hour

A birthday party for T-man and baseball practice for D-man meant a quick happy hour date for Marshall and me at a local brewery we had been wanting to try. 

It was a nice evening and we were able to enjoy our flight of beers out in the beer garden (still being built). 

We wrapped up the evening with D-man at a local Italian place he has been wanting to try. A nice way to start the weekend.

TYKTWD 2014 Version

Always a fun (but not productive day) at Return Path. D-man joined me once again for Take Your Kid to Work Today. Highlights include wining the paper tower competition, having his team's egg survive the egg drop, and a BBQ with frozen yogurt AND cookies from TCBY and Mrs. Fields. 

For me, I enjoyed a special trip to Starbucks on our commute and having him better understand how I spend my days and having him thank me for the day as we pulled into the driveway. 

It's also a day that was implemented by my coworker who passed away 2 years ago (her daughter and mother came today) so a good reminder about what is really important.

Gummy Bear Science Fair

Elementary science fair today. Not many kiddos so proud of D-man for taking on the extra assignment. Not only does a science fair project work on applying the scientific method, you work on typing, summarizing information, putting data into charts, and presentation skills. Good stuff. And we learned and that gummy bears get bigger in liquids due to osmosis. 

Easter Weekend

A 4-day weekend for the boys meant a mini-vacation to Pender for the Peavy family. It was made even sweeter with having all the Karlen sisters here with their spouses and kids. 

The weather was great and the kids got along really well. Lots of time playing ball and just being outside. Today at the ballparks my niece told me she was happy we didn't leave today and T-man told me before bed that he didn't want to leave. Those statements definitely make the trip worth it.

Who Says the 'burbs are Boring??

In general, Louisville is a sleepy little town. But, since we have moved in, we've had a 500 year flood and our street turn into a stream, a car drive off the highway through a fence and into a neighbor's backyard at 1:00 in the morning, and tonight we were eating dinner in downtown Louisville and the cops showed up because of a rowdy group in the restaurant. It's no armed robbery like our last neighborhood, but it's not too sleepy apparently.....

Sports Saturday

On Saturday, we cheered on T-man at his baseball game - where he had a great hit and got a fair amount of action in the field. 

Then we headed to his soccer game and then out to lunch at a local cafe. It was a busy morning followed by some afternoon naps.

Spring Break Wrap Up

(The last spring break post) 

It was certainly nice to have our last bit of winter at Schweitzer. With 9 inches of (wet) snow falling while we were there, we enjoyed some great spring skiing conditions. The ski conditions definitely turned out better than we expected. 

In addition to skiing, the boys enjoyed being able to ski the terrain park together (without adults) and riding the lift by themselves, playing their iPads, watching our brackets bust, building marble races and forts, and time in the hot tub. We enjoyed sleeping in, après ski at the hot tub, good food, good company, and time with family in a beautiful location.

The Rest of the Story

International travel isn't all glory.... 

From Marshall: 

She failed to mention the unbelievably long flight - even under the best circumstances.  The jet lag from a 13hr difference. Food poisoning, the fear of being sick in a foreign country, the fear of not knowing when I will recover...especially when they're spending all this money for me to - you know - work here. Walking to work when it's hotter than the sun. All the actual work and constantly having to be "on" most of the waking hours. The complete assault on sight, sound, and smell - sometimes good, but many times overwhelming over the top. The "in your face" dichotomy of abject poverty set against crazy wealth. And being gone from family. 

Then again, drinking Thai whiskey by the pool without coworkers on a beautiful day with the beach 100m away doesn't suck.

Opening Day

Even though the fields are too wet for a baseball game, we still had opening day and a soccer game. Nadja and Fisher spent Friday evening with us and attended the festivities. What a treat for me and for T-man (who read books to Fisher and told Nadja multiple times he loves dogs).

Half a World Away

With me driving the minivan from event to event this week, it is very evident that Marshall is half a world away. Here are a few pictures of his trip. It was a bit of trains, buses, ferries, and motor scooters to get to the beach, but he got there! Apparently, with a lot of Russians which Marshall will not be mistaken for as he doesn't have a speedo :)
