Taste of Louisville

The first festival of the summer - Taste of Louisville on Main Street. Marshall ran the 12k this morning with a better than anticipated time (woohoo!).  

We then headed down around lunchtime to check out the vendors and grab some lunch. D-man and I had some great pizza, Marshall finally tried out the Double Happy Chinese restaurant on Main Street (which according to Marshall only made him single happy). T-man really liked the chocolate-dipped strawberries. A nice outing even though neither boys wanted to go, they asked how often this event happened. Hehe.

Boulder County Adventures

Summer has started. This also means that the minivan becomes a taxi for the "Boulder County Adventure" camp. Two tired boys who attended two awesome camps made for a busy week (and burning through a tank of gas). 

D-man attended lacrosse camp where lunch was provided (woohoo!) and they also swam everyday. He was able to learn some new skills and try them out. And he won a Dawson Lacrosse t-shirt for his prowess today. While he would like to think otherwise, camp will be his only chance to attend Dawson. 

T-man returned to Valmont Bike came by his week and had a great time. While the camp is very expensive, the groups are small - only 5 kids - and seeing his confidence soar is so great. He was able to demo things for the other kids and graduate to larger obstacles. So proud of him!

Summer Sizzle

After a rainy birthday, summer-like weather finally showed up. It was a great (busy) weekend filled with fishing (2 times at two different lakes), walking around the Louisville Farmer's Market, a nice evening with friends, and spending the day watching D-man's team take 2nd in the State LAX Championship. Even though they lost the final game, he still said the tourney was his cherry (as well as the chat on the porch during happy hour with the family). 

Such a wonderful weekend. Thanks for showing up summer - I'm happy you are here.

Special (Birth)Day

Today I felt special. My parents came for my birthday. I received several compliments on my new shirt. My 3 boys showered me with gifts. Throw in the last day of school with a neighborhood gathering, lunch with my parents in Lafayette at a brewery I hadn't been to yet, and a casual pizza dinner, and you have a pretty terrific day (not counting the rain and cold weather). 

I feel fortunate to be getting older and enjoying all that my life has to offer. I'm one lucky lady.

Pool Party

Even though it was only in the low 60's, the kids still braved the pool. The adults were content with chilling BY the pool. We were just thankful to be able to be outside and have some reprieve from the rain.

Marshall went for a run this morning at Davidson Mesa and then convinced me to take my walk there as well. So nice to be out with such a beautiful view on a sunny(!) day just a few minutes up the road from our house. 

The Perfect Night

No soccer practice, Marshall (business trip) and D-man (at Outdoor Ed) out of town, watching a movie and pizza meant "the perfect night" as T-man said. Fun to have some 1:1 time with the little man.

Reading

From One Stadium to Another

After spending time at Folsom Field in Boulder on Saturday, we headed to Sports Authority Field at Mile High to watch the NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinals. We were able to cheer the Notre Dame Fighting Irish onto victory with my cousins Jennie and Chele and their families (Jennie's son is a member of the Notre Dame squad, but didn't suit up for the game). It was great to be sitting with the parents of so many of the Notre Dame players (including a local kid from Wheat Ridge). Plus, we were able to watch the "best player of the game ever" on the Albany team.

After the game, we gathered to welcome the team and D-man was able to get some autographs of several players thanks to Austin and Jennie. He just loves older kids and getting to see college Lacrosse players - even better!

We then watched DU come from behind to defeat Ohio State. The question becomes - who will we cheer for next week when DU and Notre Dame play each other?

Off to Outdoor Ed

D-man took off for 3 days outside of Estes Park with his 5th grade classmates. They will learn about water, mountains, and beaver ecology. They will also swim, do night hikes, s'mores and roller skating. I told him to be respectful and listen but also just be a kid and have fun (hard for him to do).

Football at Folsom Field

T-man was able to play his flag football game on Folsom Field at CU on Saturday.  

It was very cool to be able to be down on the field with him and celebrate this special occasion (and he did something his brother hasn't done).

5th Grade Continuation

IAnother milestone for D-man. He was upset that he forgot to dress up, but I explained how it would be a bigger deal if he WERE'T moving on to middle school. 

After the ceremony, we headed to Sweet Cow for ice cream to celebrate. When I took the pic of him with his certificate, he did reflect and say it is kind of a big deal he is done with elementary school. I agree D-man. (My reflection: this is likely a bit easier for me to take as he will be at the same school next year). 

May each year get better and better for you son. I love you.

Spirit Day

Are there really only 3 weeks left of school?!?! 

360!

T-man decided to spend his money on a 360 trike. He could hardly wait for it to arrive (he even had me try to put together - ha!). Good news is that the sun is shining again this week so he can enjoy it! 

Math Olympiads

So proud of D-man and his Math Olympiads work. Last year, he only received a certificate so he was so proud to earn: 

1) a patch for being in the top 50% in the nation

2) a pin for being in the top 10% in the nation 

3) a trophy for being the top student at Monarch 

What a great lesson that working hard generates positive results. (And he, of course, loves that it reinforces his math prowess).

This poem from T-man is really special because he has been so focused on writing these last couple of weeks. He likely wouldn't have finished and now is excited to show me! It's always interesting to guess the words. I was overly optimistic on one - I went for "princess" but it was "person." I don't care - I'm just happy to have it! 

 

Not Again

Coal Creek golf course was supposed to open in June. I'm afraid that may not be happening.

Snowy Mother's Day (again)

66% of the Mother's Das we have spent at this house have been snowy. Even worse, the rain from this week meant the golf course is flooded (again). 

But, the day has been great. From T-man telling me last night to "sleep in" to hearing the work in the kitchen this morning for my breakfast in bed to a wonderful brunch in Boulder, it has been a special days with the Peavy men.

Coyote Concert

We attended D-man's fifth grade concert tonight. It was held at the high school in conjunction with 3 other elementary schools. It truly was a community affair. The difference in the music quality from last concert to this concert was definitely noticeable.

The Outlaws

We definitely made the most of our trip to Denver. After enjoying "the best show in Denver" at Casa Bonita, we headed to see the home opener of the Professional Colorado Lacrosse team - "The Outlaws." The team plays at Mile High so it was fun to be able to be in the Bronco stadium and sitting so close to the action. We enjoyed the victory and free burgers after the game thanks to the team scoring more than 13 goals. It was crazy, but a fun day doing things we don't normally do.
