Meow Wolf

Wednesday was the first official day of vacation and we had a great day. It was a lazy morning and we even got to see a portion of the Monarch Lax team game via Facebook live which was a bonus. 

We headed out to Meow Wolf for a fun time and then headed toward the strip for a late patio lunch at the Linq promenade. We ate lunch, walked around, checked out the candy store and then walked through the Habitat at the Flamingo before heading home. 

Paul spotted $1 beers right by the parking lot and Marshall couldn’t resist. 

We wrapped up the night with happy hour on the hot tub/pool, burgers, cars and some race car driving. A great day.

College Fund Intact

We decided on an evening out on the strip after time at the pool with the kids on Tuesday night.  After failing to get food locked in while walking around, we ended up at the anemic food court at Caesar’s Palace which ended up saving us money and time. 

Then headed to The Cromwell for cheaper Pai Gow Poker ($15 va. $50 minimum). We all came away winners and T-man was happy that we didn’t lose his college fund while gambling (he was very concerned about it). Fun to be out for a few hours and nice that we can leave the kids at the AirBnb.

Marshall and I survived two days working from Vegas and T-man was able to take in some sites with the Wrights while we worked. 

We had happy hour by the pool both evenings which was a treat given it is cold and snowy in Colorado.

LAX Highlights

Life is funny. D-man recently told Marshall that he almost quit lacrosse a couple of years ago. He didn’t love his freshman season of lacrosse and had such a fun time playing basketball his sophomore year, that he thought about forgoing lax to focus on basketball. Then COVID hits and there is no sophomore lacrosse and his JV basketball coach ends up being the lacrosse head coach because the original coach couldn’t coach. 

And because of all of that, D-man developed a relationship with the lax coach and worked his way into playing time on varsity his junior year and is now a captain and truly enjoying the experience. Here’s to soaking it all in.

Be Boulder

Marshall and D-man participated in an official tour at CU today. According to D-man, it was similar tour to the other colleges. However, he was bored during this tour (he knew about most of what they saw). But, I still hope it was valuable to do the tour. Apparently, most of the tour students were out of state students (on spring break). Also, valuable for to understand that CU is a destination school for so many. 

Marshall did say he was impressed about all the services they do have and wants to go back to college (me too!).

Friday Night Lights

Even with the snow yesterday, D-man had a lacrosse game tonight. It was moved from 5:00 to 7:00 so the some varsity parents grabbed a drink at the Dark Horse. It was a chilly game, but Monarch came away with the victory in Boulder. D-man had some great plays and a good group of kids came out to cheer the team on which was so great to see.

Shamrock Shake ☘️

It was a low key St. Patrick’s Day here at the Peavy household. D-man had lax practice, T-man had a meeting for Ultimate (in place of a canceled game), Marshall brought homemade bread to a friend and I got a haircut. We made corn beef and cabbage and the boys requested shamrock Oreo McFlurries, but they had to settle for shamrock shakes. 

It was nice to eat dinner as a family and do some cooking again with Marshall. Even with all we have been through, we are so lucky. 

Lax Begins

D-man’s senior lacrosse season is in full swing with three games this week. The team crushed a team from Heritage on Monday 17-3. The opposing team raised $1000 and brought cookies to acknowledge the Marshall fires which is such a nice gesture. I wonder if the kids notice the burned down neighborhoods as they make their way to Monarch High. 

Tonight, the Coyotes battled against the preseason #1 rated team Cherry Creek. It was a hard fought battle that was not represented by the final score (9-5). With two minutes left, it was 6-4. With these two showings, the team should feel good about the season ahead of them. SKOYotes!

The “A” Team

Spring sport season is in full swing at the Peavy household (and I love it!). T-man had his first ultimate frisbee game of the season in Boulder on Monday. Last week, he learned that he was being offered a spot on the “A” team (varsity equivalent). He came home and immediately wanted to talk to Marshall and share the good news.  We are so proud of his hard work and being recognized for it. 

They ended up losing their first game to Fairview 10-4, but it was fun watching them play and seeing the older boys coach up the younger boys. The level of play with these kids is quite different than the coed “C” team in the fall. Looking forward to seeing him prosper and grow this year.

Quick Copper Trip

D-man headed up to Keystone yesterday with his girlfriend and her mom for the evening and skied at Arapahoe Basin today. This got me thinking about the potential of us skiing as well. We decided we would play it by ear based on weather, traffic and our mood. 

After waking up relatively early, we decided we would rally as the ride up was only 1.5 hours. We were on the chair lift right at noon and didn’t stand in a line more than 5 minutes all afternoon. It was a bluebird day and besides the bus ride back to the parking lot (and the traffic we are sitting in now), a great getaway. (We didn’t get the doughnuts we were planning on thanks to a long line, but we managed. 

And I think we chalk this trip up to “you regret the things you didn’t do more than the things you do.”
