On Thursday, we had a full day exploring some old and new parts of the island. We started out viewing Sete Cidades (the blue and green lakes) from an abandoned hotel as the weather was finally clear at the top. We also hiked out to Miradouro Grota do Inferno (viewpoint) and this was the most people we saw the entire week.
We then headed down some windy, local roads (with cow traffic jams and all) to the other side of the island. We had a lovely lunch spot at the beach and then enjoyed a long, lovely stroll on the beach (complete with seeing lifeguards save a kid caught in a riptide).
We then ventured further up the island to a tea plantation and national park where we enjoyed a beer and hiking up to a waterfall (which we had all to ourselves). Alana dove right in! We decided on an easy pizza dinner which hit the spot (after hitting another "cow jam" on the way home). (Pictures out of order due to pulling from two different sources - but you get the picture!)
