Our last two days with the Wrights were spent a bit more locally. On Friday, we spent the day exploring our town.- getting local cheesecakes, relaxing on the beach and trying the local food stands for bifana and ice cream (and Marshall and Paul grabbing some beers at the local cafe). Then, we headed to Furnas for dinner natural hot springs in the dark.
The next day, we went on a hike to see some abandoned power equipment and a couple of waterfalls (I got in this time!). As with most spots we visited, we were the only people on the trail. We definitely got our vertical feet in and fought through some Jurassic Park landscapes. We then spent time on three different beaches in the afternoon - picnic lunch and champagne on beach one, drinks and some snacks at a beach bar on beach number two and enjoying a cocktail above another beach (in the town we stayed at 7 years ago). We wrapped up the evening with dinner at the Black Whale (a short walk from our place) and then enjoyed a nice bottle of wine back at our AirBnB. What an absolutely incredible trip with our dear friends. I'm so glad that we got someone else to take us up on our recommendation to visit the Azores and that we got to go again.
