Quick Trip

Mom and Dad arrived on Friday for a quick trip. The boys had busy weekends so there was a lot of coming and going, but we didn’t have any games to watch or attend. We had drinks on the back patio and we managed to squeeze in one game of pitch on Friday night before our sushi arrived. 

We busied ourselves with watching Nebraska lose and a trip to the Farmer’s Market on Saturday. Mom and I also made a quick trip to Kohl’s and we enjoyed a delicious meal on the back patio under the lights. T-man also asked his friend to Homecoming and hung with her on Saturday afternoon. 

On Sunday, we enjoyed some of the goodies from the farmer’s market for breakfast and Mom and Dad enjoyed the lattes I made. We were able to enjoy breakfast out on the back porch as it was so pleasant out today. T-man joined Mom, Dad and me on a picnic lunch at Eldorado State Park. After Mom recovered from the drive up the canyon, we found a great spot for our picnic lunch. We walked around a bit before heading home and chilling out for the rest of the day. 

Marshall slaved away in the kitchen all afternoon and we had another yummy meal outside. It was a bit more rushed as both boys had YMSL meetings and D-man had to ask his GF to homecoming. I was fortunate to tag along as we went right after the YMSL meeting together. I sat at the car while he asked her and I just soaked it all in - just happy to be there and happy they have a homecoming to go to together. 

D-man surprised us and hung up the Nebraska flag - made my day!

Real homecoming is back this year and both boys are headed to homecoming next weekend. They went to Target together to get supplies on Thursday and made the posters this weekend. Both girls said yes. ❤️

D-man and three teammates took top honors at the Horizons golf tournament today. It was a scramble and the team pulled in a 65 on a par 71 course. What a fun way to spend the afternoon - golfing with your buds and bringing home some hardware.

The Ultimate Frisbee season started today with the a game in Boulder. T-man and his friend rushed home from school  so we could get to the game. T-man was in his element on the field. He was directing plays, cheering on his teammates and being vocal on the field. He had some great plays on offense and defense. It was so much fun to watch him. 

He came over during a water break and told me, “I’m trying to be a leader.” He wasn’t just trying - he WAS being a leader. It was evident he was enjoying himself. Monarch came away with the 12-5 victory. So, so proud of our boy today.

Good for the Soul

Our mountain escape was a much needed get away from home. T-man stated there wasn’t much to do at the house, but I talked to him about why getting away is good for the adults (there is no chore nagging to be done when you aren’t home). In addition, we have spent more time at home in the last 1.5 years than ever so another reason getting away in nice. 

It also struck me on our second day in Breckenridge that this is likely the last Labor Day weekend that D-man makes the trip with us. I tried not to focus on the fact it could be the last, but the fact that he wanted to get away this weekend just as we have for so many years. On Sunday, we did a hike, had happy hour on the deck, got the majority of folks to play cards, more time in the hot tub and had a delicious meal. 

On Monday, we were able to spend the day at the base of peak 7 thanks to Alana and Paul’s timeshare. More cards, hot tub and reading for the adults, time in the pool and a private movie theatre for the kids. We had a late lunch a dan were able to wait out the traffic so the ride home was only 2 hours. What a treat to be able to have such a great retreat so close to home.

What the Duck?

We have been lucky enough to sneak away for Labor Day weekend again this year. Louisville had a huge Labor Day parade we have never attended (same with the 4th of July fireworks in town). In the last few years, we have spent time time in Keystone, Steamboat Springs, Breck, Beaver Creek and Vail. We’re fortunate to have so many fun options right in our backyard. 

We’re back in Breck, slept in, watched football, headed into town to walk around and watch the duck race. A beautiful day to be out and about. Alana and I took a walk and ended up on a trail that took right into town. We also took advantage of the hot tub and the deck for happy hour. Relaxation at its best.

Had to cheer this week as we don’t know how many victories we will see this year. D-man knowingly wore his shirt, T-man just happened to pack his Husker bottoms (“Mom, remember when these were long on me?”). Yes, yes I do son. 

Golf Champions

D-man played in a tourney on Thursday and his team came away with the trophy. It’s a very competitive field this year at Monarch and every kid is fighting for a spot to play every week. D-man has worked hard and has been able to play every week which is great. The season. Will be over before we know it - I hope he enjoys every minute.
