Hawaii Day

 If there was a "Hawaii type" day, Friday was it. We were up early to check in for our flight and left the house around 7:40. 

• Grabbed coffee in Lihue for me 
• Went searching for malasadas (Portuguese doughnuts) - 2 recommended places in my book were closed (one permanently, one for renovations). Another spot doesn't have them on Fridays. But we hit the jackpot at Island Craves. 
• Hiked Ho'opi'i Falls which was different from the rest of our hikes. Saw two falls. 
• Drake jumped in at one of the falls 
• Got gas at Costco 
• Back to condo around 11:30
• Beat boys in Euchre
• Made lunches/pack up for beach 
• Head to Poipu Beach. Snorkel. See seals. 
• Rent Boogie Boards
• Walk over to Brennecke's Beach for some great boggie board waves 
• Happy hour in the park watching the boys board 
• Time at the pool. Marshall and Drake play cards. 
• Watch sunset with Tanner 
• Casual dinner at Cabana Grill - perfect last dinner
• Beat boys at Euchre (again) 
• Ending of a magical trip

The West Side

We made our way up Waimea Canyon on Thursday with a couple stops along the way. It was a decent amount of time in the car, but we played our island playlist and busied ourselves with the Suduko and crossword puzzles we found in the free paper Tanner had us pick up at the gas station. 

At the top of the road, we left Tanner in the parking lot and hiked into the further viewing point. We had a view down the Napali coast from the top. While there were clouds when we arrived, it cleared out while we were there. Incredible. The weather we had this trip had been spectacular. We made our way down the park for a picnic lunch spot and then made a couple stops along the way - another incredible canyon view down to the ocean and a view of Waimea Canyon inland. 

We stopped at JoJo's for Shave Ice in Waimea and then found our way to disc golf for the boys - we somehow lucked out to hit the 4-6 Thursday window that disc golf is allowed (not so lucky in not having the discs with us and having to double back). But, the boys were able to enjoy a round and I had packed beers in our cooler bag so we enjoyed looking out to ocean in our own impromptu happy hour. A quick stop at the grocery store to pick up provisions for dinner and a bit of time in the pool before we cooked up burgers and played some euchre to wrap up the night. It was a longer day than expected so I'm glad we got going. 

Kauai Birthday

I started my birthday with coffee on the lanai listing out 51 things I am thankful for. It was a relaxing morning and three of us took off to do a hike along the ocean along the cliffs. It was a much different hike than Napoli and we saw lots of turtles swimming in the ocean. We picked Tanner up for a poke lunch at the golf course. It had a beautiful view and was close by which was great. 

We napped/chilled at the condo for a bit and then the boys and I went disc golfing while Marshall ran to the store. We came back and had some family time at the pool before we headed to Merriman's for my birthday dinner. It was a really lovely time  - how fortunate I am to spend my birthday with these three men. 

We wrapped up the evening with euchre, cake and presents back at the condo. What a perfect birthday. I have been fortunate to spend my birthday in some amazing places - I can now add Kauai to that list.
