Food and Fun

We had a good mix of time at home and time with friends (in between ultimate frisbee activities) while Claudia was here. We enjoyed a night of belly laughs at the Moore’s on Friday night for appetizers and drinks; hit Redgarten for happy hour on Saturday with a big group of Louisville friends (probably the biggest gathering of folks since the fire) and cooked pizza on Monday night so we could show Claudia the new pizza oven toy. Claudia and Marshall were happy to have someone else to share their anchovies pizza. 

We played a few different games and watched most of our teams lose at football (shocking that Colorado was the only victor). It’s always great to have Claudia here and it was no different this time!

The Love of the Game

T-man’s Ultimate team had a weekend tournament up at the local high school this weekend. It was a beautiful fall weekend with some chilly moments, but no wind and a great time to be outside. 

While the tournament was tougher than expected, T-man had a great time and is truly in his element. He loves tournaments because he gets to play frisbee all weekend long and be with his friends. The team went for a team dinner on Sunday night which is just icing on the cake. 

While I struggled to watch the games on Saturday (my competitive nature got the best of me), I had a reset on Sunday as I realized how much fun our son is having and that is what it is all about - doing something you love regardless of the outcome. That is passion and I am so glad he has found this sport.

Honor Roll

T-man earned an academic letter for his studies last year. None of us remembered the ceremony, but someone told him his name was read so there’s that….. 

We talked about how we are proud of his hard work and that the ceremony is not what matters, but what it represents. So proud of his hard work and determination. 

Friday Night Football

With Nebraska on TV Friday night, we had the Wrights over for takeout and to watch the game. 

It was a bit too exciting, but we pulled off the victory and it was fun to cheer them on! 2-run win streak - Woot Woot!

On to Nationals

D-man traveled with teammates to the regional water skiing competition in Decatur, Illinois. It was a five-hour trek from Oxford. The “B” team doesn’t get to compete, but are there to cheer on the team. Miami took 3rd place (behind Wisconsin and Kansas) and ahead of Ohio State and Michigan (who both beat Miami last week). D-man said the water was chilly and the nights cool for sleeping, but the weather was great. 

Miami also took home 1st in the spirit awards. D-man also ate at Portillos (an Illinois fast food chain) and enjoyed their hot beef sandwich with hot pepper. I love he is having all these experiences. Go RedHawks!

Leaf Peeping

We spent a relaxing weekend in Eagle with the Smileys. We headed out around 4:30 and stopped for dinner in Edwards (as the Smiley family was at the high school football game). 

We had a lazy morning on Sunday before driving up to their cabin for lunch. Rachel and I were able to catch the sunshine for the ride up and enjoyed stopping to enjoy the leaves and rake some pictures. The boys enjoyed a ride up in the keep, shooting some guns and playing some frisbee. We walked around Fulford while the sun was still shining and headed down once the clouds and rain moved in. 

Saturday afternoon was pizza prep (Marshall and Dave), football watching and a walk (for me). Eagle Valley homecoming meant pictures and socializing and Marshall cooking pizza for lots of folks. He rose to the occasion (as did his dough). This was his best batch yet - yay! 

After waffles for breakfast, Dave, Marshall and I went on a nice walk and then I headed to do some shopping at Rachel’s store which is always so fun. The younger boys went to try out pickle ball. We chilled out and watched a bit of the Broncos before heading home. Leaving late also meant that we avoided much of the traffic which was great. So fortunate to have such great friends we can spend time with in such a beautiful setting.

It’s so great to see D-man loving his club waterskiing team so much. He got his jersey for the team and Marshall learned that the rapper Drake is called drizzy Drake so there is where the nickname comes from. 

He also placed 7th in jump for the B team at regionals! And Miami of Ohio’s B team placed 2nd in the jump category  What an improvement!

The MOHI ultimate team is off to a great start this season with another victory tonight against Lakewood. T-man had a great game and it brings me so much joy watching him something he loves. The neighbor’s even came to see him at which was so nice.

Regionals

College is all about trying new things. Club waterskiing has certainly been that experience for D-man. He’s been at competitions the last three weekends and he landed his jump on the last attempt at regionals this past weekend. Yippee! 

WeWork

My team had a scheduled day to go in to “the office” today at the WeWork building in uptown. I took the bus in and then walked all the way from Union Station to the WeWork space. The space was actually in the “cash register” building where Marshall had a filing job right after we got married. 

I held 1:1s for the first time in person in 2.5 years and went out to lunch with coworkers. It was wonderful to have the team together to collaborate and just spend time together. We wrapped up the day with happy hour and I enjoyed strolling back to the bus station before getting home around 7:30. 

It was fun to be downtown, but wow, I am thankful for working from home.
