Getting the house ready for furniture. Pool time with girlfriends. Trying some new meals in the kitchen (with a temporary TV for football). A walk to breakfast at a new place on Sunday morning. Checking in on Tanner during his shift at the course. Simple pleasures. 

White Out

It was a beautiful night for a football rivalry game on Friday night. We started the night with happy hour at the pool with friends and then headed to the game. Monarch ended up winning and we had a nice time cheering on the kids we knew and catching up with parents in the stands. 

The stands were packed on both sides and the student sections were loud. Tanner picked up a white dress for $8 at the thrift shop and it was a hit. Glad to see him having fun at the game with friends. 

Great Lakes Fling

The Great Lakes Fling was another successful tourney for the Redhawks water skiing team. The team placed first again - even with some misses. Drake had a PB in trick and jumped 77 feet to place 2nd again this week. 

Conference tourney is already next week. Go Redhawks! And credit to the social media person on the team for the pictures! 

What. A. Summer.

I'm working really hard to keep the summer vibes going. It was ninety degrees yesterday and I hit the pool after work to pretend that summer is not almost over. I jumped in and did a bunch of laps and just tried to enjoy being (not easy for me). 

I was able to reminisce about what an incredible summer we had and remember how fortunate we are. Highlights included: 

• Having Drake home for the summer
• A birthday trip to Hawaii 
• Time in Nebraska for me and the boys 
• A week at the cabin with all the Peavys 
• Snapdocs shut down during 4th of July week 
• Music in the park several times 
• Time in Seattle with the LeBeavys 
• Dinner at my cousin Ann's house in Seattle 
• An Alaskan cruise with all 16 Karlen family members 
• Tanner's ultimate tourney 
• Tanner getting a job at the golf course 
• Extended time with Matthew Peavy in Colorado 
• Marshall's work trip to Bozeman 
• Wicked! 
• Colorado Rockies game 
• First Red Rocks concert for the boys 
• New/refinished floors
• (Almost a new kitchen and family room) 
• Couple's golf 
• Trivia (boys and couples) 

Fourteen Years

It has been fourteen long years since Nebraska has beaten Colorado. To put that in perspective, Drake was 6 and Tanner 3 when we last won. (To be fair, we didn't play every year, but Nebraska has lost the last three games in the last few years.) 

Marshall and I had a battle over the flag Friday, but Marshall was kind enough to hang both flags on Saturday. We watched the game at the neighbors and I enjoyed the game. 😁

Southern Ohio Challenge

The Miami Water Ski Club hosted the Southern Ohio Challenge at their home lake this past weekend. Miami crushed the competition and brought home first place and a bunch of personal bests. Drake competed in trick for the first time and also jumped. His jump earned him 2nd place and his trick was good enough to tie for 13th (middle of the pack). Quite the improvement from his attempts two years ago. He also wrangled the men's team as the men's captain. A successful first weekend of the season for Drake and the team. Yippee! 

Ultimate Frisbee Sectionals

What a joy to watch Tanner play ultimate frisbee all weekend. His team came in 6th out of 10 men's club teams which is a great finish. They went 2-2 the first day and 1-1 the following day. Tanner played well,  it most importantly, had a great time and was so happy to be contributing after a long season on the sideline. I'm so glad he got to wrap up the club season with some great playing. 

We had his ankle reevaluated and everything is ok, but more PT on the horizon to build up his strength. 

1st Place

Lovely night for couple's golf on Friday night with our boys working the cart barn. Five under was good enough for 1st place - our first victory for awhile. And wrapping up the night playing some pool. Fun! 

A Break in Breck

We were fortunate to book a last minute Labor Day trip to Breckenridge with the Wrights. The adults enjoyed a night out in Breckenridge on Friday night as the kids came up later due to obligations in Louisville. 

We enjoyed disc golf, time in town, watching football, hot tub time, games/cards and celebrating Alana's birthday. We also got time up at the Lodge on Peak Seven on Monday thanks to Alana and Paul's membership.Thankful for our weekends away. The mountains are so beautiful in the summer and I'm glad we got to enjoy them for the long weekend. 

Mega Fair

On the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, Miami holds their "Mega Fair" where clubs and organizations can recruits new members. Drake was at the water ski booth again this year with the boat. The event is held in the quad right in the middle of campus. (Thank goodness for Instagram to get a couple pics). 

Back to School Night

Another last - walking the halls of Monarch High following a kid's schedule. As we walked back to the car, we commented how good the Monarch K8 School and Monarch High School have been for our family. How very fortunate we are. 

Junior Year at Miami

Love that he still takes one in front of the door - just like at home. Here's to a great year ahead. 

Squeezing

Definitely trying to squeeze in the last bits of summer. Hiking. Concert in the park. Pool time.
