Nebraska x2

Back in Nebraska to help mom after her hip surgery. It was a nice trip with good weather and I hope I was able to make a difference while I was there. There was housework, cooking, gardening with my niece, grilling, happy hours, yard work, errands run and just making sure everything was going ok. Mom is definitely moving around well and well on the way to full recovery. Mom was even able to get in the car and go for a drive with Jaima and me to see the progress on the Cattlemen’s Ball south of town. I didn’t get any pictures of us while in Pender, but did a couple shots walking around town.

Ups and Downs

Or in this case, the downs and then the up. 

Due to a great deal of rain, the State Tournament for Ultimate was condensed due to a lack of dry fields. Monarch did get two games in and walked away with one victory. It is unfortunate they didn’t get to play a full slate, but at least they got in a couple of games. 

The good news is that they announced the top team for the competitive U20 Cutthroat Ultimate team this Sunday. Tanner was one of a few boys to have “extended tryouts” for the top team. At the end of practice, he was informed that he made the top team despite being the 2nd to youngest kid to try out!!! 

They said he offense was good, his defense was ok, but his attitude and coachability were the main reasons he made the team. We are so proud for how hard he worked and to see his skill AND his attitude be recognized. I can’t wait to see what the summer holds.

Hollywood

Marshall spent the week at FICO world in Hollywood, Florida. His hotel was right on the beach and if it hadn’t been a crazy time, it would have been nice to make the trip with him - even if that just meant working from the hotel room. I’m very proud of him for all his work to get ready for this trip.

After Friday night take out, the boys were kind enough to take me to the bus stop for my 2nd trip to Nebraska this month. Love these boys. 

He’s Back

Our eldest has been around for the last week and the house is certainly more full. We arrived back home late on Monday night so Tanner did not get to see him until briefly on Tuesday night (Tanner was checking in on his whereabouts several times)….. I think someone is happy he is home. Unfortunately, Marshall was in Florida this week so he only saw Drake briefly on Monday night. But, the boys did go out for dinner together on Wednesday night to Buffalo Wold Wings which was nice for them. 

Drake has kept busy around the house and Louisville. We’ve cooked dinner together, played pool (I’m currently winning 2-0 in our 9 ball series), went for a drive in my new car, watched the Nuggets win and enjoyed a couple meals together. 

I know the summer is going to get busy so it was a nice low key week.

Mom’s Day

For whatever reason, I am often not home over Mother’s Day. This year was no different. However, the good news is that I was with my mom on Mother’s Day along with both my sisters. We had a very casual breakfast with coffee and rolls before the Marshall family took off for home. I was also happy to be with our eldest on Mother’s Day and also chat with Tanner. 

For Mother’s Day, I thought I would write down some things I learned from my mom or phrases I always remember. 

• “It will get worse before it gets better.”
• The reasons they don’t want you dating him is because they like him.
• Always pack extra clothes in your carryon on long flights. 
• Wear comfortable shoes when traveling. 
• It’s possible to have a career and a family too. 
• Stats is the most beneficial math class. 
• When there is something that needs to be done - just do it. Don’t ask for permission. 
• Don’t ask people what they need when going through a difficult time. Tell them what you are going to do. 
• Go crazy at Christmas. 
• Don’t let the last present your kid opens at Christmas be a vacuum. 
• Use a paper map. 
• Go out and see the world. 
• It’s ok to have dad do the laundry, make dinner, etc. 
• Run a brush through your hair a couple times when you don’t have time to wash it. 
• Music is good for the soul. 
• You CAN get a lot of meat off a chicken (but I still am not good at it). 
• Have a growth mindset. 
• Teachers/professors have a profound affect on the lives of so many. 
• Driving large vehicles up mountain passes is not a good idea.
• Volunteering your time for others is a worthwhile cause. 

Thank you Mom for all you have taught me and continue to teach me. I love you.

The Graduate

So nice to be back in Pender to watch my niece graduate from good ol’ Pender High. The Geiserts hosted a great graduation party and Alyssa was a gracious host. The weather agreed and it was wonderful to have family and friends together to celebrate. 

Here’s to new adventures and the next phase of life for Alyssa. May you enjoy the journey because in the end it is all about the journey.

States Ahead

Had to get some Crumbl Cookies for Tanner since I won’t be there for his Ultimate Tourney this weekend. I got a couple hugs this morning and told him to work hard, have fun and work to get better over the weekend. 

Until Two Weeks

May is a crazy month at the Peavy household. I had a work event; Marshall is traveling for work; Drake wraps up his first year of college and comes home; Tanner has States and wraps up school; I’m making two trips to Nebraska; Drake is traveling to the Dominican Republic; and we’re headed to Mexico for my birthday at the end of this month. Whew! 

What this means is that Marshall and I won’t see each other for basically two weeks (besides one night when I get in late and he leaves early the next morning). So, we decided to go out for happy hour after my haircut last night. Zucca continues to be our favorite place for happy hour in Louisville. We enjoyed drinks, some food and then went over to Sweet Cow to bring home ice cream. We wrapped up our date watching Ted Lasso. Bring on the crazy!

On what started as a little get together with friends to have a couple margaritas, has turned into a bit of an annual thing. The weather mostly cooperated with the help of blankets and space heaters. Marshall’s brisket was delicious and his margs yummy. Always fun to have friends over and ring in nicer weather together.

The theme for the Snapdocs company kick off was “better together.” And while working from home has its perks, being in person for the week was definitely better. The meetings were in downtown Denver so it was fun to be a tourist in my own city for once. A couple shots of the week.

80th Birthday Celebration

Last weekend, we were able to gather and celebrate Claudia’s 80th birthday. We enjoyed a fantastic brunch celebration at the golf course on a crisp, sunny day. There were so many people there to celebrate Claudia from various facets of life - family, high school, Pullman, cabin, condo, gymnastics, the university. What a wonderful way to celebrate an incredible woman. 

We also had time outdoors, sharing good food, playing games, eating See’s candy, drinking at Rico’s and just being together for a couple of days. 

What a wonderful, albeit brief time together. Marshall was able to stay all week and was there to celebrate Claudia’s birthday on the 26th with Matthew and Riina at a nice restaurant in Pullman.
